The Movie Thread

Finally got around to watching Ant Man (netflix is killing it with their recent uploads) and liked it way way more than I expected to.

I really liked American Sniper, the book's worth a read too.

Antman is very good IMO but i always wonder what it would be like with Edger Wrights' script and direction.

Paddington. Below scene still cracks me up. Looking forward to the 2nd film out in November.

Saw Dunkirk last night.

Good film, kept me interested throughout, nothing I would do to improve it.

That being said, wouldn't give it a 98/100 or whatever it's receiving online at the moment. It was a good film, but I don't think it's incredible by any stretch of the imagination.

Definitely worth seeing though!

Baby Driver on Saturday night, really enjoyed it! Few issues with the plot etc. but I forgive that on the grounds that it's a really fun film.

Message from the King, on Netflix
Really liked it, no nonsense revenge action type film. South African guy goes to LA to find his missing sister
Decent cast as well (lead guy is the main character in the upcoming Black Panther, and Draco Malfoy has a cameo)

Just watched King Arthur... was actually okay, much better than the reviews would have you believe. Great aesthetic, interesting take on the well-trodden myth (both stylistically & narratively) and some decent performances. Much better than last years Warcraft, which is surprisingly similar in world building considering their totally different origins in media type.

I know I liked it the moment I realised I was disappointed that my pre-viewing knowledge of what a critical and financial disaster I knew the film to be, would rule out any chance of a sequel.

7/10! which, while not great, was a pleasant surprise.

Watched that recently as well. I thought it was a great 'rewrite' of the story. I was really disappointed nobody said 'dya like sorrds?' though.

Guardians 2 - not as good as guardians 1, but enjoyable.

John Wick 1 and 2. Patently ridiculous, but still entertaining films.

Icarus on Netflix - about the Russian doping scandal

The Founder - film about Ray Croc and how he screwed the McDonald brothers out of millions to create the Burger empire it is today. Recommended.

Going to a midnight screening of "It" later tonight, so if this is my last post then I've died of a heart attack.

Not usually a big horror film fan but It is one of my all time favourite books so I'm super excited for this.

The trailers for this have looked absolutely terrifying!

Saw IT last night and found it pretty enjoyable. There are other 'popcorn horrors' that have been doing the rounds in recent months which are scarier, but I really enjoyed the setting and coming-of-age-ness of IT.

I absolutely loved it, best film I've seen in a long time!

Really hope they get to make chapter 2 (they said it depends on how this one does, but I reckon it'll be a pretty big hit).

Question is it cattle prod horror film which I despise or thrndecent kind of horror where it chills you but you actually give a damn about the characters.

Better question, is it just Stranger Things the movie? Because that is what IT should be.

I'm glad tonhearbthey dispensed of the kiddie porn orgy which is the only things I hate about the book.

It is basically Stranger Things the movie, which makes sense. Few little stylistic choices I didn't love, but still enjoyable over all.

There's definitely a number of jump scares but they're not unnecessary just to try and make the audience on edge,
I saw someone on reddit describe it as Pennywise trying to scare the kids rather than the director trying to scare the audience.
I'm not a huge fan of modern horror films which feel like they just use jump scares and gore to make up for their inability to creep people out but I really loved this.

Characters were very good, and you did definitely give a damn - Only one who was a bit off was Mike, who was a bit underdone (they gave his historian background to Ben, so he didn't have a whole lot of story in this part). There obviously could have been some more scene setting but I think they did a really good job for the amount they fit into a 2hr-ish film.
Apparently they've kept two scenes back for a potential 2nd film as well.

Been looking forward to It for months. Some very good horror movies o the horizon which is awesome for me.

Honestly depending on how good it is part of me wants them to wait 27 years to make the sequel.
