So having searched a long time for a fun career based rugby game, I have decided to make my own one. Now I will state it right here and now, I am not a professional programmer, do not expect a proper game from me, nor even a finished one, I merely am doing this for fun. With that said, I thought I would explain a little about what I hope this game will be. For those who have played New Star Soccer, I wish it to be very much like that. It will be a computer application, text based at first but perhaps if I get really into it I will add some basic graphics. We're talking command prompt level here. I thought that you would be able to create a player, choose a name, nationality, things like that, and then he starts off with a certain amount of skill points in various areas of the game, ie Speed - 50, Strength - 50... and so on. Then the user could choose to specialise, so for example they could make themselves a wing and sacrifice some strength for footwork, and be like a Shane Williams kind of player, or they could be a flanker and sacrifice kicking ability for tackling, something along those lines. Then you would have a calendar view, where you could either train, attend a special event like an interview or something, or play in the next match. Your first match would be for a school 1st XV, where hopefully you will be scouted for a small club. I'm not entirely sure about the gameplay, which is of course the most important part, but I thought it could go something like this: the pitch is split up into six or nine different areas, and you would be told which part you are in. Then random scenarios would appear where you get the ball or are near the ball and you have some options as to what to do, I'm hoping to design it so that the game requires a rugby brain and good decision making, for example realising that you are opposite a prop and so can run around him and make it a 2 on one with the winger. This mechanic would of course work in attack and defence. The more matches and training you do, the better your skills will become and you will be scouted by better clubs and eventually international teams, and other teams like the lions or the barbarians. So far I have only planned a written some very basic code, I hope to get a gameplay demo up soonish, but I'm really not sure how long it will take. What are peoples' ideas, what would you like to see in the game? Does it sound good?
