I think most of 08 stars should be removed...robinson, montgomery, etc. Retired from international rugby or rugby in general.

HB please consider this distinction between the two types of players.

Star Player- Always perform well at the top level, are among the best players in the world.

Impact players- Do not always play brilliantly (not as consistent as Star players), but have the abilities that can swing a game around in a matter of minutes.(Win the game with moments of awesomeness!!!)

South african-

Star- Impact-

Victor Matfield (Line-outs) Beast mtwarira (scrumming)
Fourie Du Preez (all round game) Schalck Burger (Overall looseforward game)
Jean De villiers (Crash ball) Juan Smith (Workrate, tackling and ball carrying)
Willem Alberts (Crash Ball and Tackles)
Francois Hougaard (line breaks around fringes and tackles)
Patrick Lambie (strong balanced runs/line breaks)
Keegan Daniel (elusive/strong runs)
Ryan Kankowski (The step, handoff then the pace)
Andries Bekker (Big fast runs and tight defence)
Bismark Du Plessis (Ball carrying and ball steals)
Jaque Fourie (strong d and line breaks/handoff)
Jean Deysel (best crash ball ever, big hits and ball stealing)
Heinrich Brussouw (Very good at stealing ball on the floor and very commited tackler)

If there are star players it should be more like this:

RSA:
Victor Matfield
Fourie du Preez

AUS:
Cooper
Genia
Mustache Beale

NZ:
Dan Carter
McCaw
Read

ENG:
Foden
Ashton (I haven't watched many of England's games, excuse my ignorance)

IRE:
BOD

WAL:
I have no clue really, haven't seen a Welsh game in ages, but maybe that new wing of theirs? How has he been doing?

Springboks all the way mate
But I think a bit too many impact stars there?

(Id keep Montgomery just so you can go Morne-10, Francois 12, Percy 15 :)
AWESOME backline in terms of drop goals and goal kickers

Anyway

Bakgat!!! But seriously, maybe there should be a distinction between star players and impact players. Star player-most consistent players at the top of the game. Impact- those players that can turn the whole game around, but obvoiusly can't do it all the time.

Star players SA:

Matfield,Du Preez and De Villiers.

Impact players SA:

Beast- scrumming
keegan- agile ball carrying
Alberts/Deysel- Big hits and strong ball carrying
Kankowski- Elusive running
Patrick Lambie- strong balanced runs
Francois hougaard- try saving tackles and line breaks
Schalla Burger- amazing workrate
Bissie Du Plessis- strong ball carrying and ball poaching
Andries bekker- big hit and very good ball carrying
Jaque Fourie- Once again big tackles and strong handoff

Springboks all the way mate

it is great that u luv the Bokke, but monty can't play now, if there is a classic team then yes. Monty was really good at hos kicking game, good in the air and running the ball, but the running part left him after a while...forgot about o'connor, he also deserves a impact player status, but not a star yet...if u know what i mean. Pesamino...great at sevens, but pretty average at 15's, doesn't have a physical side to his game. The best Tuilagi's in my opinion is henry and the 18 year old at centre for tigers...forgot his name. Go Bokke and all i see is Black and White. Also forgot about heinrich...been injured for a bit, he definately deserves a star; he steals ball every game' nice call dex.

Well they managed to get George Gregan and Stephen Larkham in Rugby 08?
(then again,

when did they retire?) Again, Im shabby with Aussie, but it seems like ages ago since Larkham played, though I heard Gregan played 07 WC?

(Bring back Percy, Bring Back Percy)

Yeah fair enough (on the O Connor call)
He'll get there someday

Agreed on the difference between star and impact players, even the best teams shouldn't have more than 2 or maybe 3 star players.
That said some teams (the All Blacks) look like they could field a whole XV with at least 10 players with an 80+ rating. Any suggestions on ways to differentiate between an impact player and a more consistently good (if not game-changing) player?

hmmm... I see what you mean
(I think I was stuck in Rugby 08 where star players arent necessarily game breakers?)

Hmmmm
Well, I guess re thinking my lists then..

RSA
Fourie du Preez
Victor Matfield
Heinrich Brüssow

NZ
Richie McCaw
Daniel Carter

AUS
Matt Giteau

I guess anyone I cut off from my older post would count as a 'star' player????

(also, in fear that I might start a shi_ty nh v sh battle)
I don't know much about nh so yeah

If it were me
I'd be naming Gavin Henson, Shane Williams, Jonny Wilkinson, BOD, Sebastian Chabal and Ronan O'Gara as some of nh impact stars

(except, didnt Henson stop for a while? The French have got impact players I am definately missing, and, well something?)

chabal, willem alberts and james o'connor are examples of impact players. Star players are those a the top of the world in their positions and guys that hardly make any mistakes and play consistently well. Richie, matfield,du preez, carter, .... Those are the big 4!!!

I think the main reason some of those guys were in the game was becuase they had old rosters...most of the teams were at least 1-2 years behind. Well i think Larkham had retired by then...Monty played and i think Gregan also played his last tournament...not sure though. I just remember the Sharks had guys that had retired already or had gone overseas. eg.(Sowerby)

Right so otherway round from what I said
Star = 'Best Players'
Impact = 'Great Players'

u got it Dex...

i do hope they do have the star and impact players, becuase the star players don't always win u the games; the impact players do cause of their flair and burst of crazy brilliance. eg. keegan/kanko/beale,etc.

HAPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! how !!!!!

Jamie Heaslip please. Paul O'Connell. And well Ferris I'm surprised isn't been mentioned when i've seen Henson and Powell mentioned

Really? Paul 'I haven't played rugby for nearly a year and when I finally do get a chance to play again I hit someone in the face and get banned' O'Connell deserves a star? Might as well give one to John 'stampy and old' Hayes and Tony 'bloody useless' Buckley.

I reckon it should be Hape because he was one of the stand out players in the autumn and since switching codes has really found his feet and is solid in defence and a great attacker thats really why.
