Why Rugby is not so popular in the West Indies and Indian Subcontinent?

Could you tell me why why Rugby is not so popular in the Cricket counries/regions, like the West Indies and Indian Subcontinent?

why play rugby when you can play cricket all year round...

I mean what outdoor sports are very popular in cricketing countries? Hockey?...
