AUNZ Invitational XV v British & Irish Lions

Saints problem isn't the cap though from what I gather it's their own pay structure

They have the cap space and can make Finn Smith marquee. The issue is would they be willing to pay something like 500k for him
Fair fair, big own goal in that case for a team really going from strength to strength.

Also if a team is willing to pay that much for Smith at this point of his career it's risky. He's not worth that yet and no guarantees they'll hold him.

Yeah, personally I don't think Tigers will go that hard on him, suspect we would offer like 400k

And feel saints will match and he will stay, but Tigers are desperate

I like these sorts of fixtures, bit of a novelty posisbly should have been earlier in tour. Its about money for the Aus union hence why seeing a Pacific nations team was never going to happen.

A system where a club can match offers for players with x amount of starts over the period of their contract (pro-rated for injury periods) and the cap stays at the previous contracts number or only a percentage of the increase is counted. Something along those lines that allows teams to build over long periods.
I have to say, whilst I disagree with your assertion, there's an interesting idea in there, but it would need to simplified from "existing contract Vs someone else's offer", and more like academy credits, but for club stalwarts
