1st test - Australia v British & Irish Lions

'Form' mfers on their way to suggest Curry should start a test match over VdF

South Africans should be playing for the Boks not the Lions

Joking aside, I do think the 'personal life' section of VdF's Wikipedia is there exclusively to stop people putting him in 'how many foreign players do each 6N team have' lists every year. He still slips through the cracks mind you though! Have to imagine the same would happen to van Poortvliet if he were relevant!

I'm hoping for a Morgan - VDF - Conan combo with bulk in the second row to balance it. Reminds me of the Warburton - Tipuric - Falateu combo from when Wales knew how to play rugby
To be fair our current back row of Reffell - Morgan - Faletau/Wainwright is pretty good we’re just shite everywhere else.

I've seen some people refer to Conan just running at brick walls, and ibreally have to question have these people actually watched him?

I haven't been able to watch most of the midweek games live with work but I watched the Reds game there yesterday (I know it happened ages ago) and he set up a try and multiple breaks/half breaks with a variety of passes. So it's not even like he's just been doing it this tour.

I think Earl is really good but he doesn't offer the passing or lineout dimension that Conan does. Good news that both of them have proven track records as impact subs if wanted as well.

He was plodding vs Brumbies, tbf, but I'd still have him first choice with Earl off the bench - only really noticed how laboured he looked because it was so different from his usual form (like how Beirne has stood out this tour)

1. Genge
2. Sheehan
3. Furlong
4. Itoje
5.Mccarthy
6. Chessum
7. Morgan/VDF
8. Earl
9.JGP
10. Russell
11. Lowe
12. Tui
13.Jones
14. Freeman
15. Kinghorn/Keenan

16. Kelleher (LCD would’ve been here)
17. Schoeman
18. Stuart
19. Ryan
20. Morgan/VDF
21. Mitchell (would’ve been Williams)
22. F Smith
23. Kinghorn/Keenan (would’ve been Daly)

So dramatic.

Even on the precipice of a whitewash you northerners can't help but be miserable *****.

Thanks I am a major c.u.n.t lol

I've just got this sick feeling in my stomach that Tom Curry will get picked for openside flanker (Number 7) and that's one thing I hate from the pit of my soul about Lions selection. The way certain players just get picked on reputation even though their form has been poor.

Even if it is a whitewash, no disrespect to AUS, Australia are not the scalp they used to be. Lions could put out 2 teams and each would beat Australia.

Let the Lions whitewash NZ or SA, see how they get on......Yeah good luck with that Andy.

Even Wales gave Australia a run for their money this time in OZ last year (Lost 36-28). The Lions have also already been beaten by an Argentina side who lost a series (2-0) to a depleted England side at home

Curry shouldn’t be starting.

Much like Beirne

Conan easily the best 8 on tour, personally I think Conan is underrated. Played very well in the 2021 Tour.

Curry has neither "reputation" ( that word is just a weird negative spin to say someone's class innit) or form over VdF. He's class, and proven, through his genetically identical sibling, that he's a good bench option so if that happens I could make sense of it and that'd apply to Beirne also who probably didn't break through to Ireland's starting team as quickly as he should have due to how good he was off the bench initially.

I don't put a massive amount of weight into the warm-ups, apart from the aforementioned two I didn't see anyone so imperious or terrible to overcome whatever their previous standing in the squad was. Morgan, M Smith, Binly and injuries aside I reckon everyone I'll name here below, which is what I'd pick, would have already been in my 23 prior, a few starters and bench spots switched around:

Genge, Sheehan, Furlong, McCarthy, Itoje, Chessum, Morgan (I'd have Josh but seems to be being geared to bench), Conan, JGP, Russell, Lowe, Tuipuluto, Jones, Freeman, Keenan

Kelleher, Porter, Binly, Beirne, VdF, Mitchell, M Smith, Kinghorn

Why is JVP catching strays! (Granted more than curry is catching in Aus atm)

Rooting for Oz in the 1st test because if the Lions win, I can’t see Oz winning test 2.

My prediction: Oz backrow outperforms Lions. Oz wins something like 24-20 on the backs of Valentino & Wilson power.

Farrell completely changes out backrow for 2nd test and wins comfortably.
