Other Matches, Wk1

Difficult to know which of the two options it is but Canada have played considerably more matches recently than the European sides so they shouldn't need to be growing into the tournament.
Didn't know they'd played since the P4 - beyond presumably a couple of warm-ups

I think they did 4 warm up games and the P4 was after the 6N.
I don’t know if that’s technically how it works but it felt to me like the P4 was the start of their season and ours started with the warmups having not played since April.

I didn't know they'd done that many pre-tourney.
April - Aug Vs May - Aug is neither here nor there really.

Don't most of their players play in England and France though? So European season.
If not, then I've no idea their season

They do, but I was thinking of their international season.
I think they did PWR - break - P4 - camp - warmups and we did PWR - 6N - break - camp - warmups, so 7v2 matches since the break.
Pretty sure I’m massively overthinking this.

Are France a different team with Sansus in it?
Yes but... Chambon's no mug.
It's the same as the men without Dupont - remove probably the best player in the world, and they're not the same.

Also worth noting, Laure Sansus > Pauline Bourdon > anyone else - Pauline Bourdon-Sansus is the banned SH

I realised she’s ban for criticising officiating I’ve often heard her being referred to by pundits and being exceptional I just didn’t know if she was DuPont good or not, poor way of asking looking back.

I wouldn't say she was Dupont-good (her wife was), but she's arguably the best player in the world. Chambon is merely a very good international scrum half

Is it just me or have the refs been incredibly harsh on marginal not straight lineouts in all the games, almost like it’s directive of the first round?

I don’t think either team is particularly happy with that game. I doubt the lack of bonus point will matter but they’ll be disappointed not to have got it. The game felt closer than the scorline.

Brasil are in for a very painful tournament - South Africa are the worst 3rd placed team for a pool, but they're as much better than Brasil are, than England were to USA; France as about as much better again. TBH, I'm a little concerned for safety with Brasil, and that's against France, Italy, RSA - not the big packs of Canada/England or the ruthlessness of NZ/Eng. Their place should probably have gone to someone like the Netherlands - who are both better, and have a longer history in the game (I believe they qualify simply by being the "best South American team" - in which case continental variety would suggest Kenya or Hong Kong would at least be safe).

NZ v Spain... how many points do NZ want? They're not renowned to being gentle with the minnows - will probably set themselves the target of beating Eng's score against USA.

ETA: Yeah, Brasil qualified by beating Columbia. They do also have a win against Netherlands - in the RWC warm-ups - of course, I've no idea how strong a team the Dutch would have sent out to S.America to help out another team, but still - good on Brasil (NB it was their 5th ever win, according to wiki).

And today will be their 17th test match ever. I think a lot of them have a decent amount of 7s experience, but that won’t help much when it comes to safety in the scrum.

TMO intervention for that?
**** off!

I mean, I thought it was close live, but TJ was in perfect position, and awake.
I'd have no problem with ref / TJ saying "please check" but TMO intervening for it?

A while before the try as well, I thought there was a limit on how far back they could go?
