Just read something interesting.

Chile vs Uruguay. Ref is French (Rozier). He is officiating in English. Why???? Why on earth would they do that? And please, for the love of god, do not say 'there arent enough spanish speaking refs'. Well, for starters, this could very well be the reason! Second, not one but two of the ARs are native Spanish speakers...

I know outsiders will look at this, shrug their shoulders and thing: "pfff, so what?"
Trust me, these details matter. Played react faster in spanish. They speak among themselves in spanish. They understand the refs instructions better in spanish. So does the coach. So does the audience.
You tell me this is a world cup, where most of the audience isn't Spanish speaking? I could buy that argument. But in this case? Ffs.

Do you guys recall a game where a home nation was refed in a lang other than English? Not taking a jab, sincerely curious.

Bit of a rant, but i think i do have a point.

It's odd. Schneider is set for the pnc final and he’s more than qualified for this match. Weirdly he’s ARing this match. Even if world rugby wants the scrum cadence in English for qualifiers it would make sense for someone who could communicate with the players to be in the middle.

They ref games in Cardiff in English. The same language the swines forced onto my noble ancestors centuries ago.

Was about to reply but came across a stat i cannot reconcile with my experience. less than 20% of the Welsh population speaks Welsh (https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopula...nguagewales/census2021?utm_source=chatgpt.com). Then i looked for a similar stat with gaelic and Ireland, to get some sort of feel for the figures, and i found an official source that says 40% (https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpu...esults/educationandirishlanguage/?utm_source=)

Reminded me of this skit

Yeah it’s very sad. The English literally beat it and humiliated it out of us in recent memory for our lot of families in Wales But @Don't Skip Leg Day thinks it’s the same as the Romans.
