Tri Nations to become The Rugby Championship in 2012

The Rugby Championship?

Odd name, fair enough. Agree it might have been better to choose a name that better represents the teams playing in it, like the names you suggest.

Kind of a mouthful to refer to them " The rugby championship teams..."

Suppose it goes hand-in-hand with SoupRugby though. <_<

Rubbish name. It will be called Four/Quad Nations by most, just like the Super 15-Super Rugby situation.

Four Nations is a rugby league competition, so they had to go with Quad Nations or something different.

This name just seems weird. They only chose it so each country can sell the naming rights so it becomes the: "Vodafone Rugby Championship" "Vodacom Rugby Championship" "Investec Rugby Championship" ect...

You're right about the naming rights, financially it's a pretty smart move. Like all things I'm sure we will get used to it eventually. It also won't limit the development of the competition, in a similar move to naming the club competition Super Rugby instead of Super 10/12/14.

Terrible name, anything else would have been better.
I see the All Blacks games have been released.

The Rugby Championship
vs Australia, August 18, ANZ Stadium, Sydney
vs Australia, August 25, Eden Park, Auckland
vs Argentina, September 8, Westpac Stadium, Wellington
vs South Africa, September 15, Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin
vs Argentina, September 29, TBC, in Argentina
vs South Africa, October 6, TBC, in South Africa

Looks like 2 byes during the competition.

In South Africa it will be known as "The Castle Rugby Championship"

I don't think its all that bad.

the English Rugby Football Union call themselves "THE RFU"
the USPGA call the American Masters Golf Championship "THE MASTERS"
the PGAGBI can call the British Open Golf Championship 'THE OPEN"

So why can't we call the world's Premier International Rugby Championship, "THE RUGBY CHAMPIONSHIP". Its probably a bit arrogant... but who cares.

This was announced in Argentina ages ago. I remember Agustín Pichot mentioning it during the transmission of the WC openning game. I wonder why the english-speaking press didn't pick up on it (though probably Pichot did something he shouldn't have).
Here's a link to an article on La Nacion (Argentina's most important newspaper) from september 5th that already calls it that way and talks about the first game against the boks: http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1403457-incertidumbre-por-el-futuro-en-el-cuatro-naciones (they call it the rugby chamionship whithin the article, although they refer to it mostly as the four nations, as Draggs says it will happen)

First Super Rugby and then the Rabo Direct Pro 12 and now The Rugby Championship. This era will not be remembered as when the All Blacks finally fulfilled their destiny but rather the era that rugby had the worst names known to man.

Here's the logo.

Think that would be the Six Nations. Don't think it is arrogance though, more like a lack of imagination.
