Players who could participate in their 4th(or 5th?) RWC in 2015.

Wilko is still playing he's a 1999 England squad member...wow there are more guys than I thought lingering around from 1999, none of them would be first choice players by any stretch but it's entirely possible one of them could get an emergency call up, especially Contepomi and Bergamasco.

In order for a player to play in their 5th RWC in 2015, they would have needed to have played in the 1999 RWC. Are there any players who were at that tournament, who are still even playing now?

I cannot even think of one!

ETA; Is Brian O'Driscoll still playing? If so, he was in the Ireland squad in 1999. Could he make the 2015 Ireland squad?

ETA1: Marius Tincu for Romania?

If BOD does go he'll be Ireland back coach rather than a player, if he goes on to coach after playing that is

Tincu retired last year smartcooky, I thought of him also. There might be some other Romanians in a 4th RWC position though(provided they seal the deal on qualifying.)

Simon Shaw probably won't make it, but he's still playing and it would be his 4th if he does.

Pretty sure O'Driscoll's already ruled out playing in 2015.

But Paul O'Connell has said he's targeting 2015:

Not sure what the situation is with Bakkies Botha, but he'll be turning 36 during the 2015 World Cup. Donncha O'Callghan will also be 36 during the next RWC (jumping from country to country here, folks).

Schalk Burger's only 30, but he's had one or two medical problems.

Sergio Parisse's only 29 with 98 caps!

New Zealand: Woodcock, Mealamu, Hore, McCaw, Carter, Nonu (4th)

I don't think Nonu played in '07 for whatever reason.

Yep your right, at the end of 2014.

Have added Shaw, Peat. Wilko is also still active in club but has retired from International, I won't include him. He would have been a 5th RWC possible. I also won't include Tindall who hasn't played for England since the 2011 RWC but is still active.

Yep your right RWC 2011. I went with what jessta posted without double checking on Nonu he was just left off for player preference reasons.. Will add Schalk Burger to SA, other than him I didn't see too many other Boks that looked likely, Botha hasn't played with them since 2011, and I would be very surprised if he came back.

Will add O'Callaghan since this is only a list of possibles, including pretty unlikelys.

Simon Shaw's nearly 40, isn't he?

Gordon D'Arcy's another one. Was on the bench against Romania in '99 apparently, missed out on '03 though. He's currently 33 and will be 35 in 2015

Wow D'Arcy could have been a fiver, have added a pile of Georgian names....not sure how likely they are and my eyes hurt now from those names.....

Wilko resigned from his national team.

Yeah I know that's why I mentioned it already...in a post at about 9:30 p.m.

Edit: Sorry Conrad my post came off as curt, but yeah I knew Wilko was done with England. Interesting to see how few players England has from 2003 that are still active compared to other countries even at a club level.

Georgia: Chkhaidze, Kvirikashvili, Machkhaneli, Shvelidze (4th, not sure how likely some of these guys are. Pyschic, Toko a little help please?)

Hmm interesting, Shvelidze i think is out for good since we have huge pool of young props coming through I don't think they will pick a 35 year old (as good as he's been over the years) we still have to look forward and focus on our future.

Kvirikashvili has been in and out of favor lately he missed few games and has been bounced around as far as his positions go but i think he will still feature in the next tourney, its hard to say where or how he will play, depending on his form he could be anywhere from starting fly half to a reserve fullback.

Chkhaidze was never a prodigy he was always known as the guy who did the dirty work and had an extremely good work rate.... which he still does, so as far as he keeps doing the same til 2015 I don't see why he would fall out of favor... He might not be the starter but the thing that increases his chance on being selected the most is his competition of all things... Vito kolelishvili is a young talented and fiery flanker but you never know what disastrous decision he will make in the middle of the game vs anyone... he could start beating up the ref's boyfriend and get kicked out of competition . if that happens who better would u call than old cold headed Chkaidze who is only known for getting his job done quietly.

Mackhaneli Might have lost some speed over the years but he still has that aura around him that makes crowd go crazy every time he touches the ball... i think that is why he was selected as CAPTAIN which is a good indication on how much trust the coaches are putting in him so on this one I'm most confident.. unless something tragic happens we will see Machkaneli leading the Georgians On the World Cup
