    England 2023/24

Not sure how much credence to give to this: https://www.planetrugby.com/news/revealed-the-four-south-africans-that-are-top-of-englands-wishlist-including-the-peerless-counter-attacking-threat Not for me thanks.

    Blimey. Are they keeping anyone?

I didn’t know he had signed for Saints. With Iyogun, Haffar and now Green, you have a nice stable of promising young props.

Fair enough. I'd be happy enough with that (Harper). Sinckler has a lot of self confidence. I like that he wants to test himself, but I think he may have a hard time given how deeply average he's been since moving to Bristol.

We’ve normally got plenty to choose from but with quite a few injured, we’re a bit more depleted than we’d like to be. Maybe Dugdale has an outside shot?

Can you paraphrase for those of us that aren’t Telegraph subscribers?

Ah yeah, missed those. 3 regular starters is a good return from that crop. Stockdale had his time in the sun too but definitely peaked early.

The pathway hasn't been super productive for England in recent years, but as I said earlier, it's by no means an issue that is specific to us. Looking at a direct head to head, of the two 23-man squads from the 2016 final, the return is pretty modest from an established international POV. For...

I think it's just more extreme with the props. Looking at those old squads, loads of players haven't made it. It's also not specific to England. If you look at the other home nations as an example, the conversion rate from U20s to regular international starter is pretty low.

Out of @Don't Skip Leg Day's list, I think it's safe to say you can probably rule out the majority ever making it to test level. However, if you look back, there's actually not a huge amount who do. 2015 was about the best crop with Genge and Paul Hill going on to become internationals. The...

Different sides of the scrum. Baxter’s a loosehead. Tighthead, we’re really looking at someone to step-up. I haven’t written off Stuart. He hasn’t convinced so far, but he’s nowhere near as bad as he’s been made out to be. We need Heyes, Street or Harper to be in the kind of form that warrants...

I’d be interested to know what the average of the first choice props was in the World Cup. A lot would have been in their 30s. Age isn’t necessarily a barrier for Davidson IMO. As a relatively late bloomer his body hasn’t taken the same level of battering some of his peers have had playing at...

First test in NZ is 6th July so might be just about enough recovery time if it's not too serious. If not, it's good news that Obano, Baxter and Rodd are in good form.

Weirdly, most of that pack hasn’t really changed and the additions they’ve made in Mercer, McGuigan and Tuisue should have made it better.

Yeah, they’ve gone backwards in the past 2 seasons. When he first joined they looked like they were on to something in building an ugly but effective gameplan around a very good maul. Now … they’re just not really good at anything.

    Premiership Rugby 23/24 - Round 18

Both teams need a win. Falcons won't want a winless season and Gloucester won't want to be going in to their two finals off the back of a 0-90 drubbing and as the only team to lose to the Falcons.

Yeah. Do they still do ‘day passes’? If not, I’ll be making unreasonably early trips to the in-laws 😂

Better cap him again quick or he’ll be off to France with Steward 😂

...that we had a pretty enviable roster of locks and we have a few in the wings who look like they could be interesting prospects (Chessum Jnr, Kpoku*, Sodeke etc.). The fact that Chessum Snr. and Martin are versatile enough to be effective in the back row is a good thing. It doesn't mean...

Carnduff looks like a very good prospect but he’s a 6 who can cover lock rather than vice versa. I can definitely see him as an option on the blindside in years to come, but we’re probably a year too soon for England ATM.
