1st test - Australia v British & Irish Lions

100%

Paradoxically, this is the type of series that kills the lions. A similar test 2 and watch 30k show up for test 3 as the entire country moves on.

No buzz. No drama. Not even handbags. Just a bland game all around. Just a boring Lions team versus a sub-par Oz team.

This doesn't hurt the Lions. It hurts the Aussies, and I'd be surprised if the Lions go back in 12 years if they get a 3-0 pasting.

The Lions are only as interesting as their foe.

If they aren’t back in Oz in 12 years, they will visit North and South America.

Be careful what you wish for.

Professionalism has sanitised the sport too much for Tours like this, you want the potential jeopardy of someone stamping on someone elses head
Its also failing. Professionalism doesnt really gel with what makes rugby a great game to be a part of and its telling that 30 years on from the jump countries like Australia and the UK are struggling to make it work financially.

Hell its even losing ground in NZ and those blokes play it in the womb.

A sad for Australian rugby. The scoreline flattered us really and it could/should have been 40 points+. I thought we went better in the 2nd half, but also felt the Lions were poor in the 2nd half. This will be a 3 - 0 whitewash and I think at least one game will be a serious flogging.

No idea what the ARU can do, but we just looked completely outclassed. We do lose a lot of schoolboys to League, but to stem the tide we need$$ which we don't have! Perhaps the RFU can spot us a few quid??

The whole point of the Lions tour is to keep the game afloat in the colonies. It also saved SAs bacon during covid.

We arent here to win, we are here to sell $500 tickets to fund the next 12 years.

Two teams devoid of ambition to play running rugby. It was all kicking, kick and kick again. The least exciting game in Lions history and it didn't feel quite right without a Welsh player. But the Lions got the job done, but it left me feeling pretty uninspired for the next couple of tests, Mainly that's due to Australia just not feeling like solid opposition. Japan might have beaten that Wallaby team/ So an 8 point winning margin won't reflect well on the Lion.

This tour is shaping up to be anything but memorable. Very flat atmosphere for Brisbane. In future, when you see those highlight reels of great Lions tries from the past. You won't see the Class of 25 in any of them

And I want to say something else no one have picked up.

The Lions had 9 players in their team who are 30 and above (Genge, Russell, JGP, Itoje, Furlong, Jones, Lowe, Berne and Conan)

That's too many and that's one of the reasons their'older legs started to catch up with them in the 2nd half.

THE BACK THREE

They all could be replaced. Keenan just looked like he'd turned up with his boots and asked for a run out. He doesn't even look like a rugby player. He looks like one of those guys who come up you "a-rite mate, got any spare change mate" ........"yeah, mate that's no problem, av a good day, sorry to bother ya" The bread and butter of a FB is the ability to defend the box kick by scrum-half and Keenan failed miserably to allow the Jorgenesen try.

Freeman carried well, but couldn't catch a cold, kicked out on the full, pointless offload to nobody when he just had to keep the ball. Lowe doesn't need to even play, just throw his left leg on the pitch, coz that's all he has, anywhere outside the opponent's 22, you know what he's gonna do
He got greedy when he saw the white line and went himself when he should have offloaded to the outside to a cert 5 points.

THE SECOND ROW

Itoje stop all that sucking in air, mouth open, looking like your knackered. Just poker face it !! You're the captain. The leader, And you don't wanna be looking at your captain, and he's looking like he's just been in a cage with Tom Aspinall but he played well. Solid game. I don't know what it is with Itoje but it feels like unless he has a M.O.T.M performance people say he played bad. McCarthy was solid.

THE FRONT ROW

Sheehan is one of the players in your team you don't worry and when he went off in the 2nd half I don't think it was a coincidence that the Lions dropped off. Genge had some good carries but gave away a scrum penalty, but questions marks against the scrum. Furlong was ok.

THE BACK ROW

Look, I'm being DEAD SERIOUS when I say I think I could have played in that back row and the lions still would have won.

So all this crap I'm reading on social from the Curry fan boys "See.....see...told ya....told ya he was a test match animal told ya, Farrel was right to pick him ahead of Morgan, coz he's test match animal, "

SHUT THE F**K UP !!!!

Just watched stats of Lions back row, guess who was least effective ? No turn-overs, the least carrie's and tackles. You guessed it Curry

Curry? Pfft. Mate, if Morgan had played, it wouldn't have been a rugby match — it would've been a supernatural event.

If our Cymru Warrior been on that pitch, the grass would've parted before him, birds would've formed tactical formations above, and the opposition would've called their mums by half-time to say goodbye.

Next time, get Morgan on the team sheet and bring a mop because that man cleans up. Thought Curry was very lucky not to get a yellow for that tackle in the air. He had a clear sight line. It was a clear cheap shot and if Australia man flipped over, would have been a red for Curry. Beirne started strong, disappeared after 20 minutes.

I still maintain that it was criminal Farrell not picking Morgan. A youthful back row of Pollock, Morgan and Earle would have meant no old man drop in the second half, and the Lions would've won the game by up 30 points. Conan solid, nothing flash really and Beirne dropped off the further games went,

THE HALF BACKS

Russell played with his slippers on, though, having said poor kick to McCarthy which should have been better and McCarthy had a simple try. JGP ? He's lucky that Tomos Williams got injured coz on form he was playing better, then again we know what Farrell thinks of in form men from Cymru, so let's not even go there

CENTERS

Huwipoloti as they say, they were ok.

Morgan is a good player but he has never reached the highs of Curry and Van Der Flier. Both are better when playing to their potential. I know Welsh rugby is in disarray so their fans will cling to any half decent player. Morgan is the equivalent of the tallest midget on the Welsh team. It was nice of Farrell to throw a bone to Welsh rugby to even include him on tour.

If you think there was a lot of kicking in that game then you cant have watched any of the games on the last tour against south africa with Warren Gatland in charge.

Amazing people dont like English fans when you constantly troll lol.

I've never downplayed Curry's ability, he's top class but has universally been deemed the worst back rower on tour before test 1, and now he's been decent but couldn't make 60.

I said before test 1 Morgan might well miss out with Keefe reffing, but bugger me I never envisaged Curry getting the nod ahead of VDM or even Earls.
To be fair to the sais on here they all appreciate Morgan and rate him. I don’t think anyone would’ve been moaning had he been selected. It’s just jokes.

I don't get the Curry hype. I think people are seeing a few big hits and a try and forgetting what he actually contributed - not much

His big hit tackles came on people who still managed to get the pass away. He gave away several penalties. He was lucky not to get a yellow card. And he scored a classic try by pushing a ball through a gap on the try line. That's all he really did. He was just solid

I think what Farrell has proved is that he is absolutely no different to Gatland (you could argue far worse with his sons inclusion) or any other coach. They pick players they know better and who they believe they can trust more.

Feel like you miss the point.

Let's take one of the first 'big hits'. It knocked the player back so that the supporting Australian players weren't in position and then allowed Beirne to get over the ball and win the penalty. Without Curry, Beirne doesn't make the turn over. These big hits also slow down and disrupt the attack etc...

We praising players for doing their job now? Look, I like Curry and I didn't watch the game but if his highlights are he put in a couple of big hits then that's not exactly pulling up trees.

It's all moot though, they got the win (albeit pretty poor result considering) and that's all that matters.

Someone else missing the point.

Curry played exactly how I expected. Well and fulfilling his role, showed why the coach picked him sort of performance. Expect he might be rotated next week and come back for test 3 just with the quality at 7, you can give him a rest. Also think VDF can offer a different dimension that would also be quite effective.

Long tour so some of the players who can come in with no to little drop in quality are likely enough. 3 or 4 of Porter, Chessum, VDF, Ringrose, Hansen, Kinghorn could be sniffing next week.

Probably had him round for Xmas dinner since he was 6 and knew his private school teacher.
