Quite a number of WP players joining up with the Bokke but we were without most of them for SR as well with them being injured (JdV, Malherbe and Etzebeth). Good for us we have both Schalla and Kolisi though! We'll need them with Vermeulen now a Bok incymbent and Deon Fourie moving North.

My WP team for the Kings (what I hope to see)

1 Steven Kitshoff
2 Scarra still injured?/ Tiaan Liebenberg
3 Pat Cilliers
4 Rynhardt Elstadt
5 Ruan Botha
6 Schalk Burger (c)
7 Siya Kolisi
8 Nizaam Carr
9 Cheslin Kolbe - Okay, so it's going to be Louis Schreuder but what would an online forum be if a random fan can't post his dream XV (from available stock)
10 Robert du Preez - Lets face the others are all limited. Might as well try out the young guy.
11 Seabelo Senatla
12 Juan de Jongh
13 Pat Howard
14 Willy Ambaka
15 Jaco Taute

16 Oli Kebble
17 Alstair Vermaak
18 Tiaan Liebenberg
19 De Kock Steenkamp
20 Michael Rhodes
21 Louis Schreuder
22 Kurt Coleman
23 Michael van der Spuy

Cobus Reinach unavailable due to SA commitments, Stefan Ungerer and Conrad Hoffmann injured...
Hanco Venter and Cameron Wright likely to be our only fit options for round one.

WP appointed Juan de Jongh as captain and Pat Cilliers as VC.

Bulls are without Bjorn Basson and Mornè Mellett because of injury

Second row issues for the Sharks as well. Oosthuizen and Lewies suffering from injuries sustained in the loss to the Crusaders.
Wentzel, Astle, and Wiehan Hay have been seen in training this week.

Some sides have announced their 23 and we still haven't named our CC squad.

I have update the OP with team updates that has already been released, will keep on updating it as new info becomes available.

Glad to see HM using the opportunity to give Etzebeth and Malherbe a run before the start of the rugby championships. It will be Etzebeth's first game for 2014!!

It's a win-win-win situation.

Strongish looking WP team. Just sad Etzebeth and Malherbe will leave us and Burger is in Japan. Where the hell is Taute? Don't tell me he is injured AGAIN!

I was hoping Taute'd settle into 15; Kolbe just too small for 15 at a high level. Also hoping Schreuder, Du Preez and Howard get good game time this season and deliver on promise shown- or just get some decent senior level experience!

Both good Cape boys ;)

Why are some teams having 7 and other 8-man benches?

All the teams are now on the OP.

it's the first time in a while that I have seen a bunch of these youngsters who are now in the squads. It makes it a bit easier to familiarize yourself with the squads than in the past.

For the life of me I don't know why they are still playing with 22-man squads and not 23-man squads... So outdated

Both good Cape boys ;)

Hah. Fair enough though I'd gladly take back PsDT, Thomas du Toit, Lourens Adriaanse, JPP, Marais and while we're at it, gib back Hougaard and Pollard please, Bulle!

I can see it now:

WP:

1 Thomas du Toit
2 Schalk Brits
3 Frans Malherbe
4 Eben Etzebeth
5 PS du Toit
6 Francois Louw
7 Bernard le Roux
8 Nizaam Carr
9 Francois Hougaard
10 Handre Pollard
11 Gio Aplon
12 Jean de Villiers
13 Damian de Allende
14 Cornal Hendricks
15 Wily Le Roux - man, this backline looks eerily familiar...

16 Guthro Steenkamp
17 Callie Visagie
18 Andries Bekker
19 Joe van Niekerk
20 Cheslin Kolbe
21 Morne Steyn
22 JP Pietersen
23 Lourens Adriaanse

C'mon, guys. In the spirit of provincial rivalry rearing it's head of questionable beauty lets see your 'state of the origin' XV's!

Maybe a thread on it's own???

We could. But it's slow enough on here and I wouldn't think we'd be derailing anything?

But what criteria would we use?

Born in, schooled in, both or just one of the two?

Well, I think we should use both. But the problem is that some kids grew up in one area and got schooled in another. For example, my cousin is now 13 years old, and his family lives on a farm in a very small town on the border of the North-West & Northern Cape province, but he's going to Grey Bloem next year...

Griquas Red Card has really set them back in this game. They haven't played that poorly but down a man can't get anything going attacking wise. Sharks have slowly gotten better throughout the game, but there it definately looks like an early season contest, lots of knock ons, missed run patterns, and a sort of general lack of clinical handling and finishing.

Edit: And on cue, as soon as I say this, all the things I criticize about the game seemingly dissapeared in the final quarter LOL.

Well I was in and out of sobriety but my thoughts on the games:

Bulls didn't look hungry, I still think they have a good team but they seemed to lack all inspiration - the new kid
Odendaal did look good though, one of the few players who looked like he wanted to win.
Quite the opposite for the Lions they were positively frothing at the mouth, great set-piece and determination.

Cheetahs with no Goosen or Willie le Roux seem to have absolutely no creativity. Combined with the loss of some of their strong forwards and a seemingly weak set-piece against the Pumas I can't see them doing much this Currie Cup.

WP looked decent but they are very much an incomplete outfit, I'm not sure Catrakelis is the way forward and I'd much rather see Coleman at 10 when he comes back. Kings looked plucky but unimaginative.

I can agree with everything said here.

On WP, I would rather also rather see Coleman start; just a more capable player ATM but I'd have Rob du Preez on the bench to slowly but surely give him game throughout the CC as neither Catrakilis or Coleman are going to get the Stormers anywhere in SR and I am hoping Du Preez might. But we also don't have a world class 9 either so it's difficult to judge our 10's.
