You would think the Waratahs should win this. They have been a bit quiet after a strong start, but a win here could see them back in the top 6 by the end of the weekend. The key is probably just to get the ball to Folau as much as possible!

Yeah hard to see the Lions get up for this, esp after last weeks fall short against the Highlanders, although that shows you they can come back and score tries, they could have won had the goal kicking been a bit more accurate.

had the TMO one working eye and the ref a understanding of the rules you meant surely?

Are you referring to the forward pass law? You are correct off-course - the Lions 2nd try should have been disallowed because of a blatant forward pass. I'm glad you pointed that out :)

If you referring to the kick at goal for the last conversion then yes, it should have been another kick, blatant mistake by the ref.

The ref did stuff that up. To start with he shouldn't have stopped the Highlanders players from charging. If they charged early he should have let it play out then given the Lions another kick (where the Highlanders are allowed to charge).

To be honest it probably wouldn't have been an issue though if the Ref had seen a 5m forward pass in one of the previous Lions tries....

As far as I know the rulebook doesn't actually say you can't charge before the player approaches the ball. It's worded along the lines of 'starts his kick'. Where's cooky to correct me? :p

Here's what the Laws say courtesy of www.irb.com ... a/ gotta stay behind the line until kicker begins the approach to kick or starts to kick

9.B.3 The opposing team(a)

All players of the opposing team must retire to their goal line and must not overstep that line until the kicker begins the approach to kick or starts to kick. When the kicker does this, they may charge or jump to prevent a goal but must not be physically supported by other players in these actions.

(b)

When the ball falls over after the kicker began the approach to kick, the opponents may continue to charge.

(c)

A defending team must not shout during a kick at goal.

Sanction: (a)-(c) If the opposing team infringes but the kick is successful, the goal stands.
If the kick is unsuccessful, the kicker may take another kick and the opposing team is not allowed to charge.
When another kick is allowed, the kicker may repeat all the preparations. The kicker may change the type of kick.

I think like you. Tahs has the potential to finish in the top 6, they should take the Canes' defeat at home

Strong start by the Waratahs. The Lions could be in for a hammering if they keep missing first-up tackles....

Lions hit back with a great maul!

That was an impressive rolling maul - I thought they were going to go out, but they just managed to stay in.....

7 all. Rugby looks so much better under the sun.....

EDIT: Foley's punting has impressed me so far today....

Waratahs add some MASS.....

.... and so far that MASS has missed two tackles and dropped the only pass that has been thrown to him.....

Well he has been all over the show, but from what I have seen he dropped the only ball that went to him and missed more tackles than he made.... He does have MASS though ;)
Ooow, that was better, nice run :D

He caught the ball that time and did break a tackle (of the opposition 10). His offload was rather poor though...

He has nothing on the Tongan Thor ;)

In all seriousness though, I read the story of the Tongan Thor. I do hope he can pick up a contract at some stage. Would be good if he could get a contract with someone so at the least he can get his family together in the same country.
