Big call for the penalty try.
I wouldn't have given it - If the trip hadn't occurred May would have stepped Claassenn and ran right into the path of Hodgson who would have tackled (or at least slowed) May.

Penalty tries should be for definite tries, not "probably would have scored".

Another great game ruined by dodgy refereeing.

I think that Rose had a really great game tonight and that the penalty try (right or wrong and I think the former) was given by the TMO so Rose cannot be blamed for it.

Great game of rugby and thoroughly enjoyed it....Worcester must feel sick BUT they gave an awful lot of silly penalties away in first half.

OMG !!! why does this keep happening, i mean i know worcester could have defended better but honestly that was a bit of a harsh decision imo i think we have been robbed again and are truly in for a relegation battle... :(

Very touch-and-go decision. My instincts is that it was a penalty try, because I've been told (didn't notice at the time) that even if May didn't make it, he had Sharples outside him who definitely would have. But even if it wasn't given as a penalty try, it was 100% a penalty, and Glos would have still had a penalty kick to win the game, so I don't think it's fair to say Wuss were robbed by the decision.

Disappointed by our performance though. I think we are missing our 10-12 axis quite badly and Henry Trinder is the shining example of a "glass cannon" - great in attack, combining with May to score his try really well, poor in defense and rushing out the line and so conceding a try. Ben Morgan would be nice to have back, but Kalamafoni is one of the best replacements to have.

Good to see Phil Mackenzie cross the line for Welsh but that being said they are being destroyed in Exeter 40-16 with a quarter of the game to go, Sale are starting to play better which leades me to think that it's between the Not-Nots and the Not-Nots for relegation. That game in April between them could very well determine who stays up.

Big result for London Irish, up to 10th now. Final 3 home games are against Worcester, sale and London Welsh. Hopefully will win those!

Yeah after that Irish win today I think it's almost certainly Welsh that are going down, Irish and Sale are finding at least some form while Welsh seem to get worse and worse each week.

I just watched this game. Not sure if I saw it the first go round, but it was aired again this morning on Fox Soccer Plus (which is showing union games in repeat now) and I decided it would be better than watching the news.

I'm torn about the penalty try. Not so much because it's questionable (would he still have been tackled, regardless of the trip?), but it seems more and more penalty tries are being awarded now than in the past. Or is it just my imagination? I remember back when I first started watching the game (maybe 12 years ago, or so) a penalty try was a real rarity. Now it seems they're given nearly every match, and more in the northern hemi than in the south. Or is that also just my imagination?

I've noticed there being more penalty tries than before - think it comes down to the TMO, and now that the TMO has more powers there are more tries.
Before the referee had to see the infringement and then make the call, now someone can watch it from various angles at various speeds and then say whether or not to award.

Thanks, Olly. ;) ;)

So it's not just my imagination, then. And yeah, I've noticed the increase in penalty tries with the recent TMO powers. I wonder if it's a good thing? I know from where I sit there's something anticlimactic about a penalty try, especially when it wins the game. It almost seems like 'cheating', sort of like in cricket when a batsman doesn't need to run if the ball reaches or crosses over the boundary.
