Based on performances in the professional era, you might go (premierships in brackets).....

1. Super Rugby- Crusaders (7)/Blues(3)/Bulls (3) in 18 years
2. Top 14 - Toulouse(8)/Stade Francais(5) in 18 years
3. Aviva - Leicester (9)/Wasps (5) in 18 years
4. Pro 12 - Munster(3)/Leinster(3)/Ospreys(3) in 12 years

Put Muster up there too even though they only won it twice. Out of 11 semi finals Munster have been drawn away 9 times. Out of 7 semi finals against French teams Munster have been drawn away 7 times. So considering home advantage counts for so much, the best teams in the HEC history are not very accurate if going by winners.

Well based on average finishing position in Super Rugby, the top five teams are (in order) Crusaders, Brumbies, Blues, Chiefs and Sharks. The Crusaders, Brumbies and Blues are unsurprising, the Chiefs have climbed the ladder considerably in the last two years for obvious reason. The Sharks are just a very consistent team, they are always pretty close to the top of the table, but have never really been able to take advantage of that. The Stormers and Hurricanes are in a similar situation to the Sharks, but simply haven't been as good. The Bulls are the most inconsistent team, with some top finishes but also a period where they were consistently last or thereabouts. The Reds are similar.

If it's recent form for the Rabo it's pretty hard to choose 2 from Leinster, Munster and Ulster.

Leinster playing pretty unattractive rugby, grinding out the win when needs be ie vs Ulster twice. HCUP quarter final too.
Munster reaching the semis of the HCUP however it must be said their group wasn't as difficult as others.
Ulster losing by 2 points to sarries with 14 men, 6/6 with away wins to Mont and Leic is almost as impressive as a semi final IMO, some extreme highs but some extreme lows during the season. Away win with B team in Munster also.

If we're including last seasons results maybe you'd have to say Leinster and Ulster? Not sure, any combo of 2 out of the 3 and you can't really complain much.

The biggest mistake he made IMO is not to have the Currie Cup and ITM Cup up there.

Glasgow are better than Ulster imo. And certainly better than Munster. They haven't had much European success, but they've essentially been targeting the league for the past two seasons. Certainly the side I fear most domestically.
