If team A scores 3 uncovered tries and team B kicks 6 penalty goals .team B wins 18--15.does team A get a bonus point for being 3 clear tries ahead and another for staying within 7?

The old bonus point system has similar scenarios. Team A gets 4 tries but loses 21-20 to Team B who has 7 kicks. A gets 2 bonus points in the loss.

The current bonus point system is crap.

Get rid of it and go back to the old one; 4 or more tries = 1 BP

So you're saying the rebels deserved a point from that shocking performance against the crusaders? But then if a side were to lose by 8 in a match that was tight all the way through, they would deserve less than the rebels? Come on mate, the old BP rule was terrible, piggybacked attacking sides over the season but did nothing to credit good defense.

I agree with this, having had this system for a season I greatly prefer it, a team like the Rebels in the Crusaders game don't deserve a bonus point after letting in so many tries. This system is more fair and I'm glad they are carrying it forward into the Rugby Championship.

Yup. The old bonus point system wasn't broken, so it didn't need fixing.

The Try Bonus points were conceived purely as a means of rewarding attacking play. They ought to have absolutely nothing to do with crediting good defence... you do that by winning, and by keeping the other team from getting within 7 points. By allowing for the possibility of the trailing/losing side taking away a bonus point from the leading/winning side, you take away the leading side's incentive to keep playing attacking rugby because they are likely close up shop.

I said at the beginning of the season that I didn't like the system. I was urged to give it a chance, and I have done so for nearly the whole season, and I still don't like it.
