Travelling fans aren't a big part of the sport here (when you see away team jerseys at Wallabies games there's a good chance that's somebody who lives in Australia). Meaning Rugby Australia sets ticket prices at what people in the city will pay. The Lions games they set the prices much higher because people coming from Britain & Ireland will pay holiday prices. Being on holiday they do all the tourist things and spend on a bunch of other stuff not just go to the stadium, watch the game and head straight home. When you can demonstrate a bunch of tourists who wouldn't otherwise be here are here because of you the state government - QLD, VIC & NSW for last year's Tests - will usually pay you for doing the event so that's more revenue to Rugby Australia.

Of the 3 nations Australia is probably best placed to hoover up Lions fans money with a safer image than South Africa and compared to New Zealand an exotic, warm image.
From last year said:
Ticket prices for the first Test in Brisbane range from $149 to $649 per seat, with the MCG ($99 to $649) and Accor Stadium ($149-$649) Tests having similar pricing structures.

Nobody will be paying 649 Australian dollars to watch the Wallabies host Japan this year.

Fixtures v Italy (in the UK) and France prior to the NZ tour are being heavily rumoured.

France would murder a Lions team in their first couple weeks I think.

Italy being forced in the UK to celebrate their centenary is rubbish. The Lions are a touring side after all and fans would travel - good chance a weekend in Rome would be comparable in price and better than any of the Lions nations potential host cities.

I'm dead against the Lions as a sporting competition but with the state rugby is in this will be a good and much needed money spinner for all (except France, they are getting greedy now, profitable ********).
