Yes the defending team can. In the "overlap" vid, you can see down the bottom of the screen that you can select on the d-pad, kick, wide, or tight defence.
u kno wut wud be good if they dont already hav it on this game maybe for the next one.. like how they hav on madden 05.. u can select a player and make him rush with the right analog.. it wud be good if u cud do this in rugby 05 so they can go for the big hit/spot tackle.. it cud either change the momentum of the game in ur direction or totally get u into trouble...

Finally no stupid AI controlled defence where we can't do anything significant to stop the attack. Looks like EA are using their Fifa and Madden knowledge base. Yippeeeee!
