Confirmed Transfers

I remember a video going around of him squatting 300kg a couple of pre-seasons ago. Man’s a freak.
This whole area of strength and fitness etc fascinates me with regards to rugby. Just how much traditional weightlifting stats translate to rugby performance.

Isnt Irelands Porter supposed to squat some silly weights aswell. Yet i saw a stat that the great Carl Haymans best squat was 220, and thats only 20kg better than my own best squat as a 6' 17 stone centre / winger and i only squatted once a week focusing more on plyometrics etc.
Yet i certainly wouldnt fancy a scrum session with him.

Cristian Cullen could bench 150kg, and pound for pound that was the best in the AB squad, and then you hear the likes of Shalk Burger who barely did weights at all and hated the bench press. He openly said he can probably manage about a 90kg bench which many would be shocked at for a powerhouse South African Forward.

The whole area interests me so much.

Shows how much technique plays a part to it

I’m quite fascinated with it as well. Also watching the teams in the gym on YouTube it’s amazing how poor a lot of their techniques are.

I do know a lot of athletes that hate bench though. Can be hard on some worn shoulders.

Absolutely!
Im not sure how the bench equates to value on a rugby field in reality. But squats and dead lifts i see the value
