Decision today on Benji Marshall
13 April 2006

A decision on whether Kiwis rugby league international Benji Marshall will have surgery on his damaged right shoulder is likely to be made today.

Marshall saw a specialist yesterday to discuss scans taken of the dislocated shoulder and appeared far from disappointed when he spoke to reporters afterwards.

"I had a little chat to the surgeon, but we never made any decisions and I have to see the coach (Wests Tigers' Tim Sheens) tomorrow to see what he has to say and we will probably make an announcement tomorrow (today)."

He said there was a definite possibility he would require surgery, but whether it was immediately or later in the year was yet to be determined.

The five-eighth dislocated his shoulder in the closing minutes of Wests Tigers' National Rugby League (NRL) game against North Queensland last Friday.

The most optimistic date for a return to the game given so far has been six weeks, which would still rule him out of the Kiwis' Anzac test against Australia in Brisbane on May 5.

i was hoping that after rwc 2007, he would probably go into rugby union
Wasn't there a whole thread on here about him dissing Union and there were calls from All Black fans to make him a social outcast because he said he wouldn't want to play for the all-mighty all blacks?

who cares..nz league needs him..nz rugby doesnt
We dont need him..we can win without him :D
But i do reakon sometime in the future we may need him...

I do know one thing.
HE CANT SING :p

You don't need him.. are you kidding me? New Zealand needs all the quality players they can get, let alone quality halves. With the news that Karmichael Hunt is sticking by Queensland, Benji almost certainly to be ruled out through injury and no Stacey Jones, the Kiwis should be very worried.

I dont mean we DONT need him. Yes it would be nice to have all our young stars in the side. But we've shown we can win without them. Like the trinations final were we kept australia on 0 for instince. That wasnt a 1 man show. The whole team worked well for that win!!

Mind you saying that im happy stace isnt in the anzac test as we can see how we go without him.

We have quite alot of players to replace him.

He's playing in the batercard cup....

he still has around 3 weeks to prove himself.

league is a team game. the kiwis are always underdogs man for man but as a team they can play better than anyone else in the world. as they showed in the tri nations final.

and there was rumours stacey may play on as he enjoyed the tri nations so much.

I doubt lance hohaia will be called up. he's playng in bartercard at the moment.
