A time-wasting argument I had earlier, now taken wider. A team picked purely on its ability to make tackles and keep the opposition out. Not nescecerialy on the size of hits they make, but on their ability to not miss them/make tons of them. Here's my go-

15. Mike Brown
14. Gonzalo Camacho
13. Andrew Bishop
12. Brad Barrett
11. Sean Lamont
10. Johnny Wilkinson
9. Mike Phillips

1. Gethin Jenkins
2. Bismark Du Plesis? Not sure
3. No idea. Suggestions please.
4. Alun Wyn Jones
5. Simon Shaw
6. Danny Lydiate
7. Thierry Dusatouir
8. Toby Faletau

Oh I don't know. Give me your better suggestions. Though I shall dismiss any team not containing Andrew Bishop.

oh****oh****oh****

Where is the Brace Yourselves; XV threads are coming picture?

Please tell we have one...

Defensive XV?

England RWC 2003 squad

Joking I am

England RWC 2007 squad however...

Interesting topic, can't really come up with a full team but make a full suggestions...

Andrew Trimble on either wing - fairly secure under the high ball, has developed a great eye for intercepts, very physical and does pilfer a fair bit of ball. Monye's another good defender and all.

Sexton over St Jonny at 10, definitely; Jonny's a bit more cautious now, and less agile than he was, while Sexton is big, aggressive and frequently initiates a lot of Ireland's choke tackles.

I'd cheerfully suggest both Rory Best and Big Bad John Afoa for the front row; Afoa's very quick for a prop, strong over the ball and does a lot of work round the edge of the breakdown for us. Best likewise is a very fine player at the breakdown and an excellent workhorse.

And while your back-row choices are extremely difficult to argue with, I'd cheerfully champion Ferris and Henry as just as effective.

I do apologise for the gigantic bias, but then again, when you have the best defensive record in the HEC group stages, it's not completely bias :p

I had bet myself it'd take 3 posts to derail, 5 to get to the first picture. I'm impressed on both accounts.

And I did think about Afoa, but had been dismissed for the suggestion earlier quite heavily, to maintain some level of interest in the topic.

Um couldn't construct full team
so here are bits and pieces
4. Maybe D'OC he is solid as **** when it comes to defense rarely misses, odd choice I know
6. Lydiate
7. Ferris
8. Read (dunno where to put McCaw :O)
10. Wilko
11. Lamont
12. Stanley
13. B'OD
14. Cueto
15. Sean Lamont idk can't think of many standout defensive fb's

Any of the Tuilagi's in there **** load of flankers I have missed out

Daniel Carter and Conrad Smith are probably the most consistent great defenders in the All Black backline...

I would add a lot more NZ players to the Defensive 15...

But seems to me being ranked 1st and second in the IRB rankings, winning games, conceding the least amount of tries are not applicable when selecting this team. Fanboy and Favouritism seems to be the only method of selection.
