Boyfriend allegedly punched, suffocated girlfriend's toddler

A Far South Side man repeatedly beat and eventually suffocated his girlfriend's 14-month-old boy while babysitting earlier this week, Cook County prosecutors said Thursday.

Jonathan Massey took the crying baby into his girlfriend's bathroom Sunday night and punched him in the torso but the boy wouldn't stop crying, Assistant State's Attorney Christopher Costello said.

So, Massey, 20, allegedly continued to punch the boy, named King-Quintaz David-Ringgold, until his sobs turned into a quiet whimper.
Then Massey placed his hand over the baby's mouth and suffocated him before placing him back in his crib, Costello said.

The next day, Massey's girlfriend, who had been out with friends during the alleged attack, saw that the baby was blue and not breathing at her home on West 108th Place.

King-Quintaz was pronounced dead at Roseland Hospital. He died from blunt force trauma and suffocation, according to an autopsy by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Massey admitted to investigators that he punched King-Quintaz three times and suffocated him because the boy wouldn't stop crying, a police report said.

Judge Jackie Portman ordered Massey, of the 11300 block of South Wentworth, held without bail for the recent crime and for violating probation for a 2010 burglary conviction.

Usually I'm not bothered by news, but just some particular lines in this article are a bit disturbing to read. I can't imagine anyone doing this to a child, especially considering that the he was probably just in need of attention, hungry or tired.
