Was Faz really out at 12 to facilitate having him on the pitch or does it come down to lack of options outside of Mark Atkinson I can't think of many English qualified 12s anywhere near putting there hands up at the time, it's one position most clubs recruited for from over seas.

I think there were a few that deserved a look but it's hard dropping your captain for a 21yr old uncapped player while on a pretty iffy run of results, I guess

I still would've gotten some game time into them earlier, but at least we're moving forward now (until Faz starts at 12 this autumn)

I've not been the biggest fan of Ford in the past but happily been munching on humble pie for ages, absolutely should have been him named as player of the tour. I reckon he has to be involved with England match day squads from now on as those kind of performances cannot be dismissed easily.

I'm a broken record on this but I want him in every single squad until he's ready to retire and become the phenomenal coach that he threatens to be. He's forgotten more about backs play and organising an attack than half our backline will ever know.

Yeah. Totally agree in principle. Although, I suppose the question would be ‘how often do you make 30m+ off a completed scrum?’. I don’t like the mentality behind it, but the reality is that a scrum penalty practically guarantees you a good territorial gain and the throw into the lineout.

Where I think we need to be better is reading the situation in real time. If we’re not getting a scrum penalty, we need to be alive to playing quickly. Too often I’ve seen us look completely unprepared when we fail to get the anticipate penalty.

A dominant scrum and suddenly teams are terrified of knocking on or forward passes

It's one of the few instances where it's directly a head to head battle

Granted being a tigers fan I would say that given our scrum history

But it should be about domination and demoralisation and restarting positively whether that’s going forward or a quick strike (hah!), not overtly looking to win pens or yellows. Fine line sometimes, granted.

I think we will miss him when he does. Personally, the prospect of anyone beating SA is so much more appealing when it comes with the added incentive of wiping the smug grin off his arrogant face.
