England v Argentina

I believe this will be a sterner test than the ABs, for multiple reasons.

That said availability may play a part, the likes of Carreras out and potentially more will be a big blow. If however, England do well in this fixture versus a very keen and belligerent Argentina, it would be hard to argue that the (re?)building is not on track and the new coaches are bedding in.

Argentina i see abit like peak Bristol, good team but not always best at all the fundamentals but being infront never means your safe and they can score quickly from anywhere.

I different test to ABs, I see ABs as harder to chase if your behind as they can keep up the pressure and pull away(we did v well to go on to a deserved win), Argentina is a team you can't get complacent with if you have a lead, to which i think we will do well as we have been finishing well. It will be a real test for the bench if we choose to start strong this game, which i think we should with a aloy of carrying power. I'd have Genge LCD Earl and CCS in the starting pack.

No George, Lawrence or Roebuck this weekend. I know we have a good record against Argentina but I think this will be a struggle. I’d back us to win, just about, but it’s going to be tough. It’s mad saying this, but I think the Pumas will offer more in attack than the ABs did. Bar the first 20 minutes NZ in possession were very average. Bizarrely, I think Argentina are sometimes more dangerous against us at Twickenham in an Autumn game than they are in Argentina or at a RWC - and let’s have it right, if the Pumas turn us over this weekend, it is NOT a major upset. They’ve got class players and game-breakers throughout the side. Mad respect to Contepomi for the job he’s done with this team given the hurdles that Argentina always face. Put it this way, i would much rather lose to the Pumas than have to suffer the Scots or Irish in particular crowing about ending our current streak in the 6N.

I am not worried about Carreras and I expect our starting line up to be stronger than the one we presented against Scotland. Having said that, we are not the all blacks. They lost, we won, that's it. It's one data point, let's not extrapolate it. We can beat any team in the right circumstances but, today, we are not as good as they are, period. Most importantly, i don't think England's style favours us, but Contepomi knows that and he is a smart guy. I expect him to prepare the game accordingly.
The only thing (i hope) we have going for us, specifically, is that i have a feeling the lads will be particularly motivated against England. Revert the appalling record we have against them, etc. We will miss Kremer, tho. A lot.

So we are missing George, Chessum, Roebuck, Lawrence, Freeman. That's some huge losses

Baxter, LCD, Heyes
Itoje, Coles
Pepper, 8.CCS, Underhill

Spencer, FSmith
Dingwall, Ojomoh
Arundell, 15.Steward, IFW

Blamire, Genge, Stuart, Isiekwe, Curry, Pollock
Quirke, MSmith

6 changes + 3 on the bench is plenty

Earl and Mitchell getting a rest on the principle of player welfare post-Lions. Tempted to have Kenningham on the bench for Curry on the same principle, but not tempted enough to actually do it (already up over 1/3 of the team changed from last weekend).

I reckon Daly starts, and if he does then drop Curry and go for a 5:3 bench with Ojomoh on it
It's a fair call, but if he does, I'd rather he started on the wing for Arundell.
Of course, I'd also always prefer a 5:3 bench, but have accepted that I'm just a dinosaur now.

I really want Ford to start, as he's absolutely terrorised them in our last 3 matches
Very tempting.
It's about balancing our better chance of winning (Ford) with development to get Fin as good as possible in time for the RWC - which means starting matches

Depends if SB wants to continue his aerial winger spot on the right - which is developing nicely.

I could see them going:

11 IFW
12 Dingwall
13 Slade
14 Steward & 15 Daly - interchanging on attack defence etc.

Id prefer Ojomoh at 13 as a more powerful replacement for Lawrence, but i think they'll go with Slade

Think this team makes sense. I agree we need to rest Mitchell, or at least bench him and give Spencer the bulk of the work. I wondered whether he might go for Daly at OC for experience and general cover on the pitch. Hope he doesn’t end up on the wing because he simply hasn’t got the pace anymore. Would be good to see Ojomoh get a run though.

You’ve got to respect the Argentinians but not too much. Scotland were terrible in the 2nd half and gutted them the game. It showed pluck but flattered them quite a lot. Even with some key players missing I expect us to finish the job. Also a great chance to test depth against a decent side. Can’t be an excuse for losing though.

Really don’t think Dalys quick enough anymore. To hold a wing post, especially when you’ve got the likes of Arundell and Murly to draw on. That would be a complete waste.

I'm guessing he'll start Ford out of loyalty and that he's been really good.
Plus he has the measure of Argentina.

If your going to start F.Smith, I'd go with Mitchell and Dingwall. Mainly for tempo and understanding rather than a new 9-10 combo with little game time starting. Keep the pace up in the game and bring on the bench to keep it up last 20/30.

Whilst welfare is important I don't think this is the game for it, it's one we need to win and we need our best for that, I think for welfare is Curry that needs it the most if we do rest someone. Earl I'd be starting along side CCS and Pepper with Underhill and Pollock on the bench. Earl is huge for this game for me.

Dan will be 16 not even going to suggest otherwise.

Ojomoh at 13 over Slade and Daly won't happen but if it were a 5/3 I'd like Ojomoh at 23.

Times reporting Slade and Daly are in the side...so expect to see Steward on the wing replacing Roebuck

Probably interchanging on attack and defensive scenarios. Chasing the high ball etc.

Daly hasn’t played since 2nd July and only resumed contact training early last week. I know he’s experienced and was in form, but that feels like an unnecessary risk and a bit of a slap in the face to Arundell and Murley.

At least they’re not fast tracking Caluori.

Otherwise expecting full strength with Mitchell, Ford, IFW and Steward.

Daly is replacing Roebuck at 14. Steward is keeping 15. Ford, Mitchell, IFA all keeping their place. No Ojomoh, Arundell or Murley in the 23. 6.2 bench again.
