I get where your coming from, it would probably also speed up the process.
Maybe not every player in the game but maybe all players rated above 75 or something. If you choose to play certain players out of their position then that could force others to do the same and although it would work for some players it would work for all.

you're making it sound too confusing, its just like a fantasy football draft, or fantasy baseball. you each take turns picking players, until everyone has a full team, and then you play eachother with those teams.
IE, there's an 8 team league, draft looks like this
Round 1
Team 1: Richie McCaw
Team 2: Dan Carter
Team 3: Schalk Burger
Team 4: Brian O'Driscoll
Team 5: Tommy Bowe
Team 6: Ma'a Nonu
Team 7: Fourie Du Preez
Team 8: Shane Williams

Round 2 (you reverse the order each round so its fair)
Team 8: Rocky Elsom
Team 7: Yannick Jauzion
etc....
