George Smith gets Rugby 2005 call-up
We've already put an early version of the game through its paces (whch you can read about here), and now EA Sports has announced that popular Wallaby flanker George Smith is to be the official spokesperson and serve as the cover athlete for EA Sports Rugby 2005 in Australia, which is set for release in March 2005.
"I'm honoured to have been selected as an EA Sports cover athlete," said Smith. "It's great to be featured in an EA Sports video game that delivers the authentic rugby experience to the fans of the sport and gamers alike."
-Doubt he actually said that lol
After starting the 2004 Test season at openside flanker against Scotland, George Smith finished the winter season at Number 6 with a man-of-the-match performance against New Zealand in Sydney and then a try in the Tri Nations decider against South Africa in Durban. Despite his age (he turned 25 this year) Smith has already played more than 50 Super 12 matches for the Brumbies and now has 47 caps for Australia.
EA Sports Rugby 2005 incorporates all the major Rugby teams, players and tournaments including Tri Nations, Super 12 and many more authentic and prestigious events from the world of Rugby. The game features a completely upgraded graphical engine with individually differentiated players, realistic motion captured player animations, dramatic lighting and cameras, and stadiums that are accurate with details such as crowd reactions, songs and chants. The game also includes a Rugby 101 training mode outlining the rules, controls, and tactics of the sport through videos and interactive challenges.
We'll have more Rugby news in the coming months.
