Aren´t those salaries low, compared to other sports?
Rugby has really good attendance, those players get money from other ways, like number of games played or sponsorship.

Take Wilkinson's average and using a nifty site I found http://debt.co.uk/football/wages/

Lionel Messi earns Wilko's annual salary every 13.46 days
To earn Lionel Messi's weekly salary, it would take Wilko 6.24 months

Don't forget rugby only turned professional in 1996. Football (Soccer) has been a professional sport for over 50 years now. You cannot compare the two.

Man, I wish those enormous salaries stayed away from rugby as long as possible. I don't really know how to explain it, but as soon as huge money come to some kind of sport, the athletes participating in it stop to play and start acting like pimps. I remember quite a different football compared to this disgrace of mankind that we're having now. Don't want rugby to be invaded with those glamorous millioners who think about their shampoo advertisements rather than about the game itself.

Carter, McCaw and Conrad Smith are close to € 30.000 a month. This includes their deal with NZRU so it's not their basic salary they get from their club.
Huh! And I thought they were the richest guys in rugby)) Starzewski getting more than Carter is... delicious =))

People who don't know anything about rugby always makes these questions. What matter if the rugby have lower wages than other sports?

Do you think that athletes from other sports are better than rugby players because they earn more money? Do you think that they train better? Please enter a rugby field and feel the real rigors of the sport, this isn't for everyone.

There must have COURAGE to play this sport:
