A giant in more than one sense, his rugby was punctuated by commitment, enthusiasm, not a little skill and his huge sense of sportsmanship. Possibly one of the few players in recent years who typified the expression, "That game's the thing." He played hard, but any animosity was left very much on the field of play. You'll gather I like the guy.

Incidentally, I think Victor Matfield displays many of the same qualities.
