Kohn & Skinner Gone

PDJ and Marler.

Will be interesting to see how their scrum goes...
Skinner is less of an issue, just because they already have a very good back row.

Could mean that Sinckler get's more of a look in, assuming PDJ struggles?
I hope so anyway.

Such a shame I was really a fan of Kohn (likely because he was nice when i met him). Skinner dropped of the face of the earth awhile back i assume this is related?

Sinckler (and Collier) will get a look in as soon as they're ready - but they're young and experience is important, not sure I'd expect an imminent breakthrough. PDJ always did reek of a stopgap though. Either way, Marler has a hell of a burden, he's been very good for them so far in the scrum but its a lot easier when you've 40 stone shoving on the other side... I'd like to see Marler put more muscle on.

edit: And yes lynam, Skinner has been injured for a while.

Yeah I agree Marler needs to get a bit bigger, he looks more like a big Hooker than a Prop.
But that's partly down to him not having as much off-season time in which to do it over the last year or so.
The flipside of that is that he's gained a lot of experience instead.

Disappointed about Kohn. Fair play to him coming to our aid when we needed him. The championship medal will be something to show the grandchildren.

Thing is, he was bigger when he played U20. I forget how much, but I think he's lost about half a stone. He's obviously a lot fitter now, but I sometimes feel you can be too fit as a prop.

I agree about Marler being a little on the small side he never seemed to gain that 4-6 Kg that most pro props do between the ages of 19-22, an off season in the gym is whats required I think. As for PDJ i really do not rate him very highly; he should be a sub for a mid level premiership team not a likely starter for a top 4 side. From what iv seen of Sinkler (and a lesser extent Collier) he really is a scrummaging specialist, not that it means everything by any stretch but some of my mates in the Quin's academy say he lifts the heaviest weights of any of the players at the club. Losing Kohn is a real shame but on the bright side it sets up an exciting tussle for selection between Kennedy and Mathews.

Personally, the logical loser between Kennedy and Matthews, assuming Matthews has developed enough to make a fight of it, is Robson.

I think most people would agree with you about PDJ.

I can't see Robson being dropped, he has the playbook on his arm... no-one can compete with that.

If Sinckler can bring the dominance he had at age group level to his senior scrummaging, then he is going to be invaluable to Quins and England.

I had an image in my head of Olly turning up to the first Quins practice post 6N wearing his medal. Good lad.

Kennedy can run a lineout as well as Robson and is, imo, frankly just a better player. Neither are naturally 4s. If Matthews or Merrick comes through, I see them competing for 5 and I know who I expect to win that.

I was being sarcastic, I don't really rate Robson very highly. Twomey looked alright last season too and I think Matthews might have an injury.

? they are both natural 4's athletic second rows that are very talented line out options that may lack a little of the bulk (the 122kg Mathews and 130kg+ Kohn) that the number 5 needs in the scrum behind the more pressured tight head.

Always thought that was strange - if they've got so many/such complicated lineout moves that the guy running it needs them written down then how are the other forwards supposed to remember them too?
Also he looks a right knobber with that thing on his arm :p

I'd say Kennedy is a far better option than Robson, however I don't think they'd ever pick him over him.
