I've had the same problem with my Radeon 9600. I changed my drivers to Radeon Omega Drivers and now it works 1024x768. Plus, i installed Ati Tray Tools, which I use to force anti alising - whan I'd set it in the game, it hadn't work. Now everything is fine.
