In Rugby Union, scrums are important plays.
However, I think that the rule should be changed.

In the case of all fouls, penalties are given. The scores of penalties are different by the type of fouls.
Knock-on -- 1 point,
High-Tackle -- 5 points plus sinbin

And in the case of carryback, 2 "suicide points" are given to the opponent team.

What do you thinik?

WTF???
Points from scrums? this makes little to no sense.....

Rubbish :p
Suicide points = Safety in American Football, and i've always thought that was a bit daft

Yeah, not a fan of the idea at all. Rugby is a different, and if I do say so, better sport than American Football. It's rules are older and there is no need to mimic them.

american football safety?
and giving points to teams for dropping the ball?
what if its rainy where punishing teams for conditions
and basicly a try for a high tackle
cant wont and will never happen any of this thescoring is great the way it is

Idea: Get rid of the existing scoring system altogether; no tries, no penalties, no drop goals. We'll get rid of the posts, get rid of the scoring zone, make the pitch circular and just have 30 players chasing each other about for 80 minutes with a ball.

I understand what he means... the penalties that are kicked should have a different points value as per the offence. I.e. offside should be 2 points, not releasing 3 points, high tackle 4 points + sin bin or something similar.

Still think it's daft though. :)

Hi people new here.
Don't like this idea at all.

The current methods of scoring are sufficient. I would like to see the scrum option taken out of the equation when there are free kicks awarded. A free kick indicates attacking play, and it just seems daft for a team to choose a scrum after been given a free kick.

Welcome to the forum Yanchri,
I agree somewhat, but a scrum is technically an atacking play as it allows you to setup your setpeices and the such. I prefer tap and goes from freekicks though

not a good idea at all. Would just over complicate and ruin what is already a very good game.

Thanks Olyy,
I agree scrums are attacking, but only close to the oppositions tryline. There can be so much leverage regarding free kicks. The tap and go with free kicks definetly makes the game more exciting.

You take away the scrum and you're inching rugby union ever closer to turning into the much inferior rugby league

I'm just saying, take away the scrum option, when free kicks are given. In your own half. That's really all.

Scrums imo give far better oppertuninty to attack as it pins 8 of the oppositions defenders in the one place whereas unless its a quick tap and go free kick the runners going to get fecking crushed...and thats not much fun at all:(

One change I would make is that ANY touch down in own try area is 5m scrum to the attacking team. Although that would make teams kick a lot more to try to get that.

So maybe it isn't such a great idea
