Richie Mathers will not switch codes to join Guinness Premiership side Leeds Carnegie, BBC Radio Leeds understands.
The Warrington full-back has been linked with various moves following the Wolves' announcement that they are to sign Huddersfield's Brett Hodgson.
And Leeds-born Mathers, 26, who started his career with the Rhinos, met with Carnegie officials to discuss a return to Headingley.
Mathers has now emerged as a target for another Yorkshire side, Castleford.
After starting his career at Headingley, Mathers spent six seasons with Leeds before heading down under to Queensland to join Gold Coast ***ans in 2007.
Following an injury-hit season, he returned to England with Wigan, where he spent a full season in 2008 before moving on to Warrington as part of a swap deal for Martin Gleeson in April 2009.
The move to the Halliwell Jones on a two-and-a-half-year deal offered the chance to kickstart his career.
But Hodgson's impending arrival for 2011 means that coach Tony Smith will no longer rate him as his first-choice full-back - and Mathers wants regular first team rugby.

There was a time when Richie Mathers was quite highly rated, but he suffered a serious knee injury as he was leaving Leeds to sign for the (then) newly formed Gold Coast ***ans and never quite regained it. He's done OK for Warrington but is an easy target for the opposition due to his weakness under the high ball and poor tackling technique.

Of what ive seen of him he is not that great.

He's a full back and he's cataclysmic under the high ball. Not a good combination.

Fantastic last man tackling technique
