England WERE mediocre in the World Cup. You can hardly say they played well, despite reaching the final.

I said you cant call Englands effort in the world cup mediocre.
Im not saying they played an attractive game but they maximised their potential . With the terrible start they made they decided to play to their strengths, keep it tight and minimise mistakes.
If Nz would have played with the same nous, passion and inteligence they might have made it past the Quaters

Easier said than done though, they just needed to be cool under pressure. Had they managed to win that game against France with a late drop goal or whatever i have no doubts they would have won the competition because they would have shown more effort early in the game in order to pull out a comfortably advantage.
