So the ticket office has been closed for the first time in memory and the stage is set for the showdown of the season as Biarritz (2nd) welcome leaders Pau who won the the reverse fixture handsomely 41 -6. It is fair to say that Biarritz were not on song when that match took place in week 10 on 9th November.

Biarritz following their fairly easy victory at Massy last week recall Philip Van der Walt, Laurent Cabarry, Romain Ruffenach, Edwin Hewitt, Tanguy Molcard, Dan Waenga and Rodney Davies will start the game whilst Kylan Hamdaoui, 20 years old and scorer of two tries in the last three games, retains the confidence of the staff on the right wing relegating Takudzwa Ngwenya to the bench. Johann Lourdelet and Cécilion Puleoto are preferred to Franck Montanella to cover the front-row positions.

Pau are little changed, with an injured Traille lamenting his lost opportunity to return to his Biarritz stamping ground for the first time since his departure but still have the old Toulouse warrior, Boiulhou, at 8

For the Palois side , the center Julien Fumat makes his return to centre, which shifts Mathieu Acebes onto the wing. This compensates the absence of Marika Vunibaka, author of a hat-trick against the Columérins who has thigh problem.

From the excitement of the attacking rugby, skill and effort at Montpellier to the first half of a wet and windy match at Biarritz where it is attritional to say the least.

Pau have bullied their way to a 3-0 lead at half-time with many errors from both sides. Ngwenya made a brief appearance as blood replacement for Hamadoui who had managed to get the head of a team mate straight to his jaw.....Zee could only manage two touches and lost the ball both times which kind of summed BO up.

In between suicidal off loads from Waenga, Dan (about 11 stone fully dressed and wet) managed to wrestle the ball from the grip of the huge Pau second rower Claude Dry....a mighty effort

The half finished with a whimper followed by the usual Pro 2 all out brawl which resulted in Natsarashvili (Pau 3) extending his half-time break by an extra 10 minutes for what was clearly a punch but lacked any impact as he opened his palm and it turned into a slap!!

Pau are clearly ahead on possession and territory but have to give the Biarrots lots of credit for their determination and effort.

The results of yesterday, which show the disappointing performance of Biarritz in a very scrappy game where the Pau scrummage out powered Biarritz to the extent of their conceding a penalty try very early in the second half, to follow a "mauled" try, that effectively ended the game. This result almost guarantees the Pau side promotion being 15 points ahead with 7 games to go albeit that Perpignan can close the gap to some 12 points with a bonus win this afternoon but their away record is not the best (1 win out of 7)!! They are playing Mont-de Marsan who are 7 out of nine putting them in 9th place as it stands this morning. Will USAP turn up today?

In the middle of the table clash, Tarbes overcame Carcassonne whilst the Narbonne's win over Massy was vital as it would have a loss would have left them possibly 9 points behind in 14th place rather than the 1 point they are. The hapless Bourgoin (15th) were routinely beaten by Montauban (7th).

Finally, I big thank you to Beziers (8th) for their win over Albi (which left the losers three points behind Biarritz) in a tight match.

Today three challengers for the play off places and the bottom club play in what are important games for them....

Already mentioned USAP and in the match between the other contenders sees Aurillac (5th) go to the prune country to face Agen (6th) with a three point lead and an away record of 2 wins and 2 draws out of 9 and Agen with 8 wins out of 9 at home so I have to see Agen winning this.

And the final match of the weekend is in Paris where Colomiers (11th) take on bottom club (the probably doomed) Dax, who have had their manager (Richard Dourthe) banned from the ground for three matches. This weekend will not make the old Biarrot, Julien Perylongue, feel any better after his move 40 miles north this season!!

The Sunday matches saw, as predicted, victories for Mont-de-Marsan, which worked in favour of Biarritz after their loss yesterday, and Agen who jumped over Biarritz (but then if they had not Aurillac would have) into second reducing Pau's lead to (in my mind an unassailable) 14 points.

Meanwhile Dax moved closer to the exit after their predictable loss to Colomiers leaving the table looking like this...........

Anyway, I can't see both last year relegated and historical french clubs USAP and BO, going back to top14 next year. Pau is too much ahead and will certainly be the one finishing first and be promoted directly !

Well they are both in the play off positions!!!

I have already said that Pau look done and dusted for next season after their powerful win over BO at the weekend!!

I would wager that one of them will be the other team that comes up but also that both, and Pau, will struggle after promotion!!

Hi, everyone.
I don't think it's done for Pau yet, Agen are still "threatening" them IMO. I believe Agen will finish strongly and better than BO and USAP.
Section Paloise are much ahead but they'll need one or 2 away games victories (hope it will be over Tarbes ).
As a Pau fan, I couldn't except such a victory over Biarritz. That was very impressive.
Maybe this win will give Pau the title.
