Is there any way out for the Reds in the future? I can't see much of a future. But I couldn't believe it when I read this article!!

Miller happy with job
May 09, 2006 - 1:57pm

Story by: Sportal
Queensland Reds Coach, Jeff Miller
Outgoing Reds coach Jeff Miller indicated he happy with the job he has done with the Queensland Super 14 outfit saying he has built a good base for the future.
Former Wallabies coach Eddie Jones takes over as the new coach after this weekend and will join the Reds for the first time in Townville this week as the team prepares for its final Super 14 match of the year against the Highlanders.
Despite the Reds not achieving great success under the three years with Miller as coach he believed he has laid the foundations for a positive future under Jones.
"I can leave now reasonably happy that we built a good base for Eddie to build up," Miller told ABC Sport.
"We'll spend a fair bit of time with him over the next three days, just going through where we've taken the side this year, the things that we've tried to achieve, the progress of the players, and maybe a little bit of advice on how he moves forward, in terms of his playing personnel."
Jones, who guided the ACT Brumbies to a Super 12 ***le in 2001 before going on to coach Australia, will make his first job the retention of key players, a task made more difficult by the current state of huge offers for players from other Super 14 franchises and overseas teams.

Relax... there the good times and the bad times... Reds will bounce back.
May take a while and a change of attitude but they'll be back, QLD needs to focus on their youth program and develop players.

Reds have heaps of quality young players, if they can keep them they'll be a good team in a few years.

Barnes 19
Berry 22
Blake 23

Chapman 23
Holmes 23
Horwill 21
Hynes 24
Johansson 21
McMeniman 23
Moore 23
Mowen 22
Valentine 23

Future looks pretty good...

Jesus... Barnes 19!
Is that some sort of record?
Think for the Reds and the Force it will only take a year or two to really show their merit... the Force at the end of this season has impressed everyone whilst the Reds have had a hard time of it, keep watching... Australia will have a big shake up next year thanks to the Force... the Brumbies have lost Git. and the Reds have lost out as well... Force will be right but the Reds will have to build (and I have all confidence that they will)

The success of the under 19 and 21 Aussie teams will start to show in the next few years....... Australian rugby is in good hands.

And dont forget, the Tahs have the FUTURE OF RUGBY who will be coming into there team next year or the year after........Kurtley Beale (remember that name)

And the Reds have the Queensland equivalent in Quade Cooper, with an equally stupid name.

Quade Cooper?

Sounds like a bad-guy in a wicked ass '80s-'90s platform game...

the reds will come right at some stage. it is hard to say when this will happen but it will. every team has bad seasons and some take longer to come back up from the bottom than others.

I think a new coach with fresh ideas etc could be what the reds need. they haven't been great over the last few years but they have some guys coming through and under a new coach like jones these players could perform even better.

there is a future for the reds it just may take a few more season to come through

Eddie Jones is an asshat in the John Mitchell and Clive Woodward mould, and the Reds have supposedly been about to make it big ever since they topped the table in 1996.

They are like the Tahs without the strong early season preformances before crashing and burning.

The Reds were a defiantely a power from 1996 - 2001, and also prior to that. Because of the Western Force Queensland's rebuilding phase has been set back another 2 or 3 years.

Thanks for your comments. None of us knew that the Reds were bad.

Seriously, how are the Reds ever going to attract any good players? We can't even hold the ones we develop ourselves.

If the Reds aren't any good then it has huge repercussions for a state that produces probably a third of Australian rugby players. What I mean is that kids in QLD aren't going to want to play rugby! And that directly affects the whole of Australian rugby. The ARU needs to take some affirmative action. But what?

Only a third? Mate we produce almost half, if not more than that - easy.
