So last night I had a large prop (120kgs) fall on my knee and bend it, all in all he dislocated it, and may have caused multiple fractures and ligament damage the doctors are going to check that next week...
How will I go about rehabilitating this, as I don't think it's as bad as the doctors make out because I can put weight on it today.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you should probably see a specialist rather than rely on TRF... All injuries are specific to the person/circumstances and even similar injuries won't necessarily have identical rehabilitation processes.

However just as a general point (having dislocated my shoulder more than once in training/games), a good rest period before you try doing and put any strain on the affected area. Remember that the more you rest up now the faster it'll heal and the less likely the injury is to become recurring, no matter how impatient/frustrated you might get. After that, plenty of strengthening the joint and possibly weights to get strength back up.

Hope this helps.

As a medic I completely agree with what the guys have said above, but I also had a very similair injury (dislocated and shattered patella) after 6-8 weeks in a splint I found extended my leg while sitting upright very good as well as doing a squat type movement up against a wall for extra support. After extending your leg enough times so its easier or comfortable start putting a small weight on your foot and trying it then. WHAT I WILL SAY IS PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HAVE SOMEONE IN THE SAME ROOM AS YOU WHEN YOU DO THESE, JUST IN CASE YOU PUSH YOUR SELF TOO HARD AND ANYTHING HAPPENS. Again this worked for me, and may not work for you. Ignore this if your specialist tells you else wise. But hope I helped :)

Knee injuries if not treated with great care will haunt you for the rest of your playing days... Do nothing on it until the specialist tells you to.

For example one of my mates dislocated his in 2006 doctor told him not to do anything on it . he tried to rush it kept pushing himself to his limits ...first match back ..POP! same knee again..this time he had the sense to wait and let the leg heal and rebuild its strength naturally and since then he has had no trouble whatsoever with it despite some psychological inhibitions when taking a crash ball :/

Another friend of mine apparently had a promising career with Bath and was on an academy contract so I was told when he did ligaments in his knee ,took him well over a year to play again although it still troubles him a bit.

Best advise i can say is take the rehabilitation seriously. Learn from my mistake; I've dislocated my knee 3 times in the last 5 years, and have since "retired" (only 20 as well).
Anyways listen to your specialist, and do what your told. Do not rush back to play. Obviously push yourself a little bit, but not so much in the beginning. Best thing at the start is getting flexibility back in the knee. Once you've got the full flexibility back, only then you can focus on strengthening the muscle.
Good luck with the rehab, its a long haul but as i said if you take it seriously then it shouldn't come back to haunt you (that said every individual is different). Good luck man :D

Well I was hoping to be back in four weeks but not it's looking more like 8 weeks, so I'm just gunna call this season off haha.
