Rugby breakaway league coming. (R360)

Let's be real this is a goldmine for NRL players, every year a couple of them use Union as a tool for agents. Now they can say Saudi backed in their negotiations
RTS is 32 and has had a few injuries, not really a flex of a competition.

Papenhuyzen if he can stay fit won't leave the NRL IMO, the big worry is just his legs injuries.

Massive news as half the England squad has agreed to join the league. And all American owners

Looks to be massively damaging.

'A leading source told Mail Sport: 'I would be amazed if it doesn't happen now. This is going to be revolutionary for rugby. The British club game is in a bit of a mess - there are players queuing up to join.''

'Senior England stars Henry Slade, George Ford and Jamie George – who have a combined 277 England caps – are leading targets for R360. Slade was represented by Hinton prior to him leaving Wasserman. Hinton played professionally for Leeds and Newport Gwent Dragons before retiring in 2012.'

'is understood the eight men's teams will eventually have squads of 35 players each and be based in London, Tokyo, Dubai, Cape Town, Boston, Miami and two other venues still to be decided. In time, four women's sides will also be created.

To play in the first season of R360, players who sign must be out of contract with their existing club employers by the summer of 2026, which would rule out Lions and Premiership superstars Marcus Smith and Finn Russell for now as their deals expire in 2028. But it is understood R360 have a war chest available buy out existing contracts if needed.'

R360 is said to have already secured a title sponsor and broadcast deal with the tournament likely to be screened on free-to-air television initially, while partnership deals with Netflix, Amazon, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok are also being explored.

I can see Owen Farrell being the starting 10 at the World Cup for England if the reports tonight are accurate then as Ford is set to join and they want to buy out both Smith’a contracts.

You definitely work for this shower

Ford has repeatedly said his target is the world cup, why would he ruin that goal to go play for a league that'll be bankrupt by the time the first whistle is blown

I don't. I hate the idea for its effect on the international game.

It's seems unlikely if he is taken seriously but unfortunately money talks and I could also see them saying to potential switchers the RFU will have no option but to rip up the deal with the league due to public pressure.

Whatever happens they will be a hell of lot of unbalanced sides at the World Cup. France looks like it might not be as affected as England and possibly some others.

Targeting players that would ordinarily have a nice final season in France or Japan. They'll grab some of those, maybe some of our backrowers that can't get past the Currys/Pollock/Pepper/Underhill/CCS and then it will fart itself back into nonexistence

It's just more Saudi/UAE sportswashing bullshit that won't have any eyeballs or interest. The only upside will be Ratcliffe and the Glazer ***** losing money when it collapses - I guess they're still sore about their stupid football league being shot in the face

They will certianly target those who have listed as well. Particularly if they are willing to buy out contracts as the article says. Pollock would be a dream signing for them I suspect.

Wonder what the odds they get LRZ back from the NFL - would Wales select him?

They're only getting a combination of journeymen and players a season away from retirement. Pollock would be nuts to go near this nonsense

I don't know why you're so wedded to this idea

I am just so worried about its affect on the rugby I like.

I was record by reports the other week but the Daily Mail are very confident it will happen and even say a FTA broadcaster has been secured. Who I'm not sure. BBC won't go for it. ITV maybe but would they want to upset the RFU and damage the World Cup they showing, Can't see C4 being that interested in a breakaway sport. Maybe C5.

It's the Daily Heil man, clicks first, correct reporting later (i.e. never)

In the phenomenally unlikely event that this gets off the ground, it won't last more than two seasons. No-one is going to watch matches in Dubai, Miami etc unless they pay "fans" to turn up and shout a bit.

It's absolutely riddled with holes and no amount of Mike Tindalls will stop it sinking

Miami hosted one of the legs of Michael Johnson’s shambolic athletics with limited crowds and that had mostly Americans dominating and winning.

But it just feels like it going to happen and suddenly players who people wouldn’t have wanted going to the World Cup will suddenly be starting matches because so many big names have made themselves unavailable,

Mail Sport can today reveal the bombshell plans that are gathering rapid momentum - with half the England squad provisionally agreeing to flee to the rebel league, which is promising million-dollar salaries and is primed to begin in just over a year on free-to-air television.

Proceeds to list 3 players from the current England setup and have them down only as in the leagues sights

So Paris isn't on that location list. Suggests to me these bozos don't have the money to entice Top 14 players. Cheaper location than Tokyo, London, Miami and Boston.

Honestly sounds more like a scheme of some sort than a legitimate operation, I'd be wary as a player of even getting paid.

These leagues just don't work. LIV UK this year had fewer attendees than the Irish Open last year at a location that could only host limited numbers of fans. That's a 4th tier traditional tour event attracting more fans than a marquee LIV event. TV ratings for least watched PGA events are higher than LIV. Rugby doesn't have the names to even peak curiosity like golf does and the team aspect only exaggerates this.

It'll be filled with 7s players who are marketed as established internationals if it makes it to the pitch.

Sounds like they will allow it but individual countires just won’t select players. So World Rugby could back it but the RFU and others will hold out creating a very unbalanced World Cup and international fixture calendar.
