Rugby Europe Championship 2025

I attended Spain - Georgia today.

It was a really nice sunny day and lots of open Rugby was played.

It is the first time I have seen Georgia - they were amazing, forwards strong, backs fast and skillful.

Spain also scored some really good consolation tries.

Rugby Europe have a trophy (plaque?) for last place, and they get a guy wearing the opposing team's jacket to award it. Not with a straight face either.

So funny & unexpected

After watching the U18s 6Ns festival and having seen how well Spain performed questions of what next specifically in terms of pathways that exist in order to provide them with the opportunities to play and develop as professionals or as close to professional as possible.

My suggestion is via expanding the schedule of the REC. Potentially even rebounding it.

Call it the Europa Rugby League. Homecand away featuring the current 8 team format. Essentially in the same format as SR Americas. But using the national sides and centralised squads.

This would provide each Union with at least 7 guaranteed home games. So 7 more opportunities to generate revenue. As well as their squads the time to develop toward more professional HP set ups.

Agree with a lot of the above, seem to be expanding at underage level, then it's all forgotten. The game will not survive unless it encourages expansion, the six nations really need to look after Europe properly to grow the game.
