[QUOTE="welshglory, post: 650086, member: 38673"] I want to understand the French rugby culture more. Can you guys give me an idea of what the pathways are like for rugby under Top 14? From what i've heard it isn't that well organised as other countries, could this be a more fundamental problem? I think it's pretty impossible to stop the Top 14 juggernaut, it is a massive tournament now and rightly so, and it will continue to grow in revenue and thus political strength. In Wales you start with club rugby like everybody else, then you might get spotted for the Welsh schools team, then you might get into a regional junior development scheme (not actual academy) which are funded by the WRU and then regional academy squad and then National age grade squad. If you don't make it and you want to stay in rugby you'll try and get into the best club you can and work your way up and be spotted. Pretty straight forward, most likely because it's a very small country. England which is a more similarly sized country is different. Again you start with club rugby, then you go to county, maybe rfu regional side after that, then if you're good enough at a young age you are involved with pro club academy developmental squads, then maybe full youth academy training squad and then maybe RFU national squad. Then when you get older maybe you'll go to a public/grammar (private boarding) school or get a scholarship and you'll be involved in the set up there, if its a really good one it might as well be professional (Millfield,Sedbergh,Colston's etc...). Then the system is pretty much the same, except you might get into the full academy side, if not and you decide to stick to rugby you will probably switch clubs to try and work your way up there.
