Hello, and welcome to TRF. A forum dedicated to all things rugby.

Chapter One
The TRF

New members, old members, Loratadines alike, good evening.
In this chapter we will cover the basics of TRF. The history, the present, the future and everything in between. ;)

TRF was created primarily as means of communication between dedicated rugby fanatics to share their views on all things rugby. Members reached their peak at around the time the Rugby World Cup 2003 rolled by (I think. It was a long time ago now), and things were going swell.
Due to a number server problems and the like, TRF experienced quite a lot of downtime. At one point it disappeared for quite some time. Long story short, the kind guys at Swordfish Studios [/plug] decided to host the forum for us, meaning we can enjoy our means of communication once more.
Right now we are building this forum up to it's potential. We have just included a lot of new graphics in an attempt to make the place appear more attractive, and there are a lot of things to come. It's an exciting time to be a TRFer.
If you have any thoughts, or would like to see what may be in the pipeline, please visit The Ideas Thread (shouldn't that be pinned?).

Chapter Two
The Members/Staff

We currently have some 600 odd registered members. Congratulations on boosting that number. ;)
I'm estimating that we have around 200-300 regulars, whether they post or not. They are generally a very friendly bunch who enjoy a bit of banter as much as the next guy. Comparitive to other forums out there, the usual gang are quite a lighthearted bunch and very welcoming. Occasionally too welcoming.

The staff here at TRF are overall rather laidback. Due to the nature of the members, you will find a lot of threads go off topic around. While this is usually acceptable stuff, anything silly will get clapped on soon enough. Depending on the situation, you may recieve a warning. You have been warned :p

But seriously, the staff here are just like regular members, and are very easy to get a long with.
The list of staff can be found here.

As indicated by the key at the bottom of the page, Admin are symbolised in a red name, moderators are symbolised in blue, and forum moderators are symbolised in purple.

You may or may not have noticed that we are fortunate enough to have "VIP"s so to speak that visit us occasionally. Game developers from Swordfish studios and occasionally Sidhe interactive come and post/view these forums. Please please PLEASE treat them with respect, as they are here primarily to help us find info and the like on THEIR games.

Chapter Three
Los Lover.

Los Lover is a jerk. But he was also a comedy genius.
He currently serving a ban for roughly 100 billion years, but a lot of him is still left behind. So you can blend in, here are some phrases and in-jokes to use:
Variations to: "I will halve your sales. Stupid move [name]"
"I have truth on my side. I am an army"
"HOW IRNOIC"
"350,000 dollars"

And many many more. I will not spoil them all.

Chapter Four
The meaning of Life (on TRF)

There are a lot of places here for you to ponder over.
Theres great discussion on the 6 Nations currently taking place. Just head up near the top of the main page to find out more.
A little further down, theres Super 14 discussion. Don't let the forum moderator put you off, Chiro is actually quite a decent bloke, and definitely knows his stuff. Some great discussion and humour about Wendell and the like to be found there. Just pop on over to the Southern Hemisphere section.
Down the road a little bit, just underneath the rugby gaming section, you'll find "Other Sports".
You can find topics on Rugby League, Cricket, Soccer/Football, NFL, even Winter Olympics.
If theres a sport you'd like to discuss, and theres no topic already on it, please feel free to make your own. Theres no doubt some people will know a bit about it, or even want to learn more about it. Remember, this forum is yours, use it. (Incidentally, the real owner is about to change hands soon... But that doesn't matter)

The Archives. A fairly recent addition to TRF. Everyone can now go back and read through what was said during the 6 nations last year. The Lions Tour. Anything. Theres a lot of interesting stuff in the Archives. Go have a look.

Chapter Five
Balls and Mouths

Talking Balls is the potentially great new addition to TRF. Unfortunately it hasn't really taken off in quite the way we hoped.
Talking Balls is there as a means for TRF users to voice their opinions in articles. You could write an article on the weekends big 6 Nations game, you could write about your club rugby teams miraculous comeback from 40 points down at half time. In fact, you could write about almost anything. Theres just one condition. It has to be interesting. We want interesting articles for people to enjoy. Please, if you have something to write about, don't be afraid to share with us your thoughts. That's what this place is for.

Chapter Six
Quirks and Gimmicks

You may have noticed some members with things like "Winner of Such'n'such award" displayed proudly in their sigs.
That's because recently the OT forum held the 2nd Annual Turf Awards.
The Turf Awards were started way back in 2004 by entrepreneur and forum admin St Helens RLFC, or Len, as he likes to be called. It was a way to recognise members for their weird and cool sort of things. There were awards for things like "Best Sig", and "Comedy Genius Award" as well as the cool stuff like "Most Annoying Member" award and "Best/Worst Newcomer" award.
The Turfs, however geeky, is a wonderful part of TRF, and is a bit of fun.

Chapter Seven
Show us your Moneymaker

You may have noticed a donation button near the top of the page. If you haven't, check it out ;) .
This isn't just for show, it actually works (or it will do soon) and it is used solely for the purpose of bettering the best damn Rugby Forum around... Or at least bettering to make it the best damn Rugby Forum around.

As mentioned earlier, there are a lot of changes planned for TRF, and not all of them come cheaply. The interweb costs money. This is where you come in.

No Wait! Come back!

We're not asking you to give us your life savings (although, it would be nice), just if you want to give to a very worthy charity, or even give us some money, please do. Think about it this way, if we get $2 dollars each from 100 members, that's $200 dollars for TRF. BAM!! With that $200 dollars, we make the forum super-happy-fantastic and attract another 300 members who each donate $2....well....

Just to make one thing perfectly clear, St Helens RLFC (the Boss... Call him Len) doesn't drink, smoke or do anything fun. So it's safe to say that whatever money you do give doesn't go to waste. Think of it as a TRF Kitty. Whatever money TRF makes, ALL of it will go back into TRF...Meaning YOU, nay, we ALL reap the benefits.
So, if you would like to see the bettering of TRF, please give.

Oh, it's using PayPal.

Chapter Eight
+REP, $300

The Rep system is a new addition to the forum. While technically still in a "trial" stage, it is not something to be abused.
You can raise or lower anybodies rep points simply by clicking on the + or - next to the name, and giving a reason. And the reason is very important. If you feel You have been given an unfair rep point, good or bad, then call this number or PM an admin and he/she (sorry charlie) will decide what to do.
If you give a bad reason for a rep point, then you will be destroyed... Or whatever the admin decides.
Please do NOT abuse this system as it does have potential to be very good indeed.

If you haven't read any of the above then please READ FROM HERE
I have only just scratched the surface of TRF. Theres a lot of weird, wacky and wonderful insights to the modern footie fan available on offer, so please, have a look around. No doubt something will catch your eye.

Also, new members, please tell us a bit about yourself and get to know the rest of the members by clicking here.

Cheers,

Bulla Merde
