URC expansion

My first choice would be to add a Spanish Team and a Portuguese Team, they could replace the 2 Welsh Teams and have a Welsh/Iberian Conference.

I like your idea better than extending it across the pond. MLR is down to only 8 teams from 13 in 2022. I don't think URC in the states will work once the novelty wears off, which would probably be just one season.

Will there be contraction with Wales moving to 3 regions, or will the Black Lions be added?

To make up the Welsh conference they could
1, Add the Black Lions
2. Add a team from Portugal/Spain
3. Add a team from the USA.
4. Add the Cheetahs to the conference.

They could also just add the Cheetahs and get rid of the conference system. But this would mean a reduction in games to 15 games, assuming each team plays each other once.

They could add another Italian team, as well as 2 South African Teams (Cheetahs, Griquas). They would then have 3 conferences of 6 teams.
1. South African Conference of 6 teams
2. Irish/Scottish Conference of 6 teams
3, Welsh/Italian Conference of 6 teams.
This would mean a season of 22 games, assuming you play each team in your conference home and away and the other teams once. This is still less games that the Top 14.

Personal preference would be the addition of a Portugal/Spain team. Means it can slot into the Welsh group with as minimal as possible travel addition, and generally a good area to be developing rugby.

The US time zone wise is a bad idea and we saw with Super Rugby adding too many additional time zones adds strain to viewership numbers, especially only one team (don’t think there were much viewers from APAC for SA based games).

I like the idea of the Black Lions, but I think logistically them slotting into the Welsh group doesn’t work in terms of both time zone and travel time.

As much as it would be good for the Cheetahs to have a home in a league, I just again don’t see it working logistically unless they stay in Amsterdam, which they won’t want to do. I don’t want us (SA) wrecking a good thing we have going by adding too many teams (again)

I think a Spanish team would be next in line (not logistically but logically after the Black Lions) as seen fron the REC super cup. The game cannot keep ignoring countries like Georgia, Spain, Uruguay and Chile.

South Africa would never allow it, look at what they did in the challenge cup
