Party pooper. I agree with you but with some guys the class is just too apparent to ignore.
Dude, I know... and since Ettienne Botha the Bulls haven't had a real classy centre... Do you know how much this excites me??
Party pooper. I agree with you but with some guys the class is just too apparent to ignore.
Sharks:
Sharks team to face the Leopards (line-up TBA)
15. Riaan Viljoen 14. Odwa Ndungane 13. Tim Whitehead 12. Francois Steyn (Captain) 11. Lwazi Mvovo 10. Patrick Lambie 9. Charl McLeod 8. Lubabalo Mtembu 7. Jean Deysel 6. Jacques Botes 5. Franco van der Merwe 4. Pieter-Steph du Toit 3. Wiehahn Herbst 2. Kyle Cooper 1. Allan Dell
Substitutes:16. Craig Burden 17. Tendai Mtawarira 18. Jandre Marais 19. Anton Bresler 20. Keegan Daniel 21. Cobus Reinach 22. Meyer Bosman 23. Paul Jordaan 24. Louis Ludik
Pretty much full strength backline with Ludik the only sure starter at fullback not playing. Cases could be made that Reinach and Jordaan should start a serious match as well I suppose. Forward pack is a bit more experimental but considering Bismarck is out its still pretty good with experience provided by veterans Deysel, Botes and F vd Merwe.
I'm very keen to see PS du Toit play and also how well Dell goes. The Leopards probably don't stand much of a chance but they should scrum well enough for this young front row to consider it a test. With Du Toit, VdMerwe, Bresler and Marias I think it's safe to say the Sharks have the best depth in quality at lock in SA. Something I wouldn't have considered possible less than 2 years ago.
So are they resting Willem Alberts and Kankowski and Marcell Coetzee for the next warm-up game??
AT first when you look at that squad, you think, Why 2 locks on the bench and only one loose forward, then I remember that both Franco and PSD can also play flanker. Good backline though...
Bulls:
15 Jürgen Visser, 14 Akona Ndungane, 13 JJ Engelbrecht, 12 Francois Venter, 11 Bjorn Basson, 10 Mornè Steyn, 9 Francois Hougaard, 8 Pierre Spies (captain), 7 Jacques Potgieter, 6 Dewald Potgieter, 5 Juandrè Kruger, 4 Flip van der Merwe, 3 Werner Kruger, 2 Chiliboy Ralepelle, 1 Mornè Mellett
Substitutes: 16 Callie Visagie, 17 Frik Kirsten, 18 Grant Hattingh, 19 Arno Botha, 20 Jano Vermaak, 21 Ulrich Beyers, 22 Lionel Mapoe, 23 Wynand Olivier
Cheetahs:
15 Willie le Roux, 14 Rayno Benjamin, 13 Johann Sadie, 12 Robert Ebersohn, 11 Raymond Rhule, 10 Elgar Watts, 9 Piet van Zyl, 8 Phillip van der Walt, 7 Lappies Labuschagne, 6 Frans Viljoen, 5 Francois Uys, 4 Lood de Jager, 3 Lourens Adriaanse, 2 Adriaan Strauss (captain) 1 Trevor Nyakane
Substitutes: 16 Ryno Barnes, 17 Rossouw de Klerk, 18 Ligtoring Landman, 19 Juan Smith, 20 Sarel Pretorius, 21 Francois Brummer, 22 Hennie Daniller, 23 Hansie Graaff
Some of the bigger names return to the fold for the Bulls (hope them dropping Serfontein from this line-up doesn't mean he's doomed to the sidelines this season) while the Cheetahs are also backing their best except for Goosen and Oosthuizen still not being match fit while Brussow is out injured yet.
I guess that can start some debate over who should be in SuperRugby now![]()
What a pointless pre season match![]()
Lions beat the Southern Kings, 41-31. I guess that can start some debate over who should be in SuperRugby now

Southern Kings
Tries: Rynier Bernardo, Johan Herbst 2, Hadleigh Parkes
Conversions: Wesley Dunlop 3, George Whitehead
Penalty: Whitehead
Bulls vs Stormers at Loftus first off is gonna be MASSIVE! Bulls have looked the more impressive pre-season but that counts for very little once things are truly underway.
I certainly believe the Bulls are going to surprise a few teams (although they did end 6th on the log last yar so would it really be a surprise?). Just hoping its not us to start off with.
