Ospreys ban Henson for two games

The Ospreys have banned Gavin Henson from their two opening Heineken Cup games for disciplinary reasons.

The Wales star will miss Sunday's trip to twice-winners Leicester and the home clash against Perpignan that follows.

The region did not reveal the nature of Henson's transgression when they announced their team on Friday.

An Ospreys statement read: "Gavin is excluded from the next two Ospreys fixtures following a rugby-related internal disciplinary decision."

Henson's ban is the latest controversy to affect a career that has often been dogged by off-field events.

His absence is a further blow to the Ospreys midfield as long-term partner Sonny Parker is also absent from the clash with the Tigers due to a chest muscle injury.

It is not known if the ban could affect Henson's chances of playing for Wales during the autumn Tests against South Africa, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

But he has a lack of match practice having started only one game this season, the Ospreys' 18-17 EDF Energy Cup win over Harlequins on Sunday at Liberty Stadium.

Henson's first appearance following an ankle injury came against Ulster in the Magners League when he came off the bench after 63 minutes in a 43-0 win, also at Liberty Stadium.

Roumor that's going around is that he wasn't being considered in the 22 anyway due to fitness issues. Hore then sent him to train and play for Swansea this weekend and Gavin refused!

If that's the case, what a stupid thing to do. If he's not fit enough, end of case. Should do what the people in charge say and go get fit playing for Swansea. He really is such a prat (not that we needed any more proof), just when peoples opinions were changing of him. He seemed like he'd grown up, getting on with his rugby quietly and efficiently.

Does that mean he's screwed for the AI's? Or do you think Gatland won't mind what happenes behind the scenes at the O's so long as he behaves when with the Wales squad? He won't have played much rugby though!
 
If Gatland and Edwards pick him then that would be incredibly foolish. Not only would it undermine the leadership at the Ospreys it would definitely set out a poor example and would make a mockery of this so called "hard edged, hard nosed, everyone is expendable" style of management that Gatland and Edwards have pioneered since they first met at Wasps.

If they do want to set an example to the Welsh squad, they'll do well to look into the circumstances of what happened at the Ospreys and make a reasoned judgement. If Henson has fallen foul of the rules and authority of the coaches then he should be excluded from the side.
 
BBC just reported that 'apparently' he missed an O's training session. So nothing to do with Swansea RFC.

Not sure I agree with you Pres. If he's done his time the O's set and Gatland believes he's needed, I'm not sure he'd sacrefice the possibibility of getting a majour scalp in the AI's. He's said a number of times how pivotal Henson is to Wales.

If he's done his time then he should play for Wales. If Gatland picks Henson during a club imposed ban for misconduct then that would be silly.
 
He might be a prat but we're fairly thin on the ground in Wales for world class players, and he is one of the best in the business.
 
What an absolute dick!
This whole prima donna attitude is becoming a problem with rugby players. Can someone remind them they're not footballers.
He used to play for swansea, what's the big deal about going back?
Just get on with your job, get fit...he's meant to play for swansea during the 2nd heineken match that he misses.
Just get some form, Wales kinda needs you.
