Why is HO not no1?

In the present Rugby Union, HO is no2 and PRs are no1 and no3. Why? Why isn't HO no1? Very interesting.

Anyway, the counting starts from the edge of the scrum - Loosehead 1, Hooker 2, Tighthead 3. That is why the Hooker is 2 and not 1

And, number 8 should have a better name. For example, "central midfielder".

Err, no he shouldn't. The centres play in the midfield? Also it's the convention when doing these things out to have the wings and centres in one line, the three quarters. Then going from left to right it's 11, 12, 13, 14 as it is in the game itself.

Get with the times old man! It's all about plastic jerseys and Euro kits these days. Less of your traditionalist nonsense.
 
Why do you keep trying to change the game? The numbering system is fine and it makes sense. If you want to call the No.8 something cooler use the German Sturmfuher i.e. storm leader.
 
According to wikipedia a fullback may be referred to as a custodian. This pleases me.

What do "IC" and "OC" stand for? I've never heard of them.
