World team:
Ricky Ponting (Australia, captain), Matthew Hayden (Australia), Adam Gilchrist (Australia), Stephen Fleming (New Zealand), Brian Lara (West Indies), Chris Gayle (West Indies), Chris Cairns (New Zealand), Shane Warne (Australia), Glenn McGrath (Australia), Dwayne Bravo (West Indies), Darren Gough (England), Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)

Id imagine the likely 12th man will be one of the spinners?? Also where to bat Fleming if he starts?? My batting order would be thus....

Hayden (keep Aussie combination at top of innings)
Gilchrist (Get the innings off to a fast start)
Fleming (Has to be near the top of the order somewhere)
Ponting (Has to be near the top of the order somewhere)
Lara (Could control the innings through the vital stages)
Gayle (keep possible West indies batting connection together)
Cairns (next best batsman - perfect power player to any of the above players who could then bat through)
Warne (better spinner then Vettori)
Gough (Only Englishman - would have to play? Vettori would strengthen the batting though....)
Bravo (Pace at the top of the innings opening with McGrath)
McGrath (Best pace man)
Vettori (12th man)

The other option is to use Gilchrist as a "floater/pinch hitter" and open with Hayden/Fleming. The thing I like about that idea is the possibility of seeing Gilchrist/Cairns batting together.........

I personally would have left Hayden out of the team altogether, opened with Fleming/Gilchrist, and put someone like Clarke/Oram in.........

Thoughts????

We could have done without Hayden. Clarke at six. Steve Waugh was seen training in the nets with the team yesterday. It probably won't happen but what a boost for ticket sales that would be.

Steve Waugh was in the nets because he is the selector, coach and manager.

I cant believe Gough got picked didnt he get picked for the S.Africa tests.

I know that. He was actually batting for a fair while.
