A Political Thread pt. 2

Can we really trust either side to give accurate figures on any deaths ?
This is true and it would be stupid to blindly trust either side but apparently the way Hamas are recording these figures are pretty standard and seem to be ok. And at least Isreal is a democracy which while doesn't make them 100% trustworthy they have certain checks and balances for these kind of things but either way it won't be for many months or years until we get some reliable numbers.

Just seen the MP for dover has now defected that's two in two weeks.

Really surprised Labour would even accept her.

Some of the things she's said is more Reform than Labour
Yeah but she's standing down at the election according to the Labour and their current candidate will stay. So its definitely more visual than actual "material impact".

But if she decided to U-turn on not standing that means she'll be the Labour Candidate right?

Heard on the radio there's always an option for her to run at the next election

She's accepted into the fold as a Labour MP but not Jeremy Corbyn or Diane Abbott seems a bit strange.

I think Labour are standing there own MP in her spot as she's standing down. Her husband was the old mp but went to prison for sexual assault.

Standing Abbot or Corbyn would be a massive own goal by Starmer.

Maybe that's the Conservative tactic, get all their MPs to defect and say they are standing down, then do a u-turn and win the seat and defect back.

I agree. I can see why Labour have done it but it leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and I can't help but ask, this is the party you want to be? She's a scum bag and you're taking her in for cheap political points in a race you're already way out in. Its not right in my opinion and I expect better from Starmer.

One line on the BBC that got me thinking was that it is symbolic of what Labour are trying to do. Tempt those who went Tory or are Tory in general to Labour. The symbolism of Tory MPs switching to Labour won't be lost on voters. Considering the Tories are the masters of cheap political points, they probably deserve this.

You're right in everything you say it just doesn't sit right with me at all. But as you say they're not concerned about voters like me as they know I'm never voting Tory but the socialist in me is not happy with this.

The local party have their candidate their executive would have to agree a change in candidate.

As its been announced she won't be a u-turn from her wouldn't change Labour candidate.

So she could run as a independent I guess and get laughed out of town (preferably on a boat)

This Labour party nor Tories are a friend of the trade unions. Labour are too scared of the Union pay master jibes. The problem is they do put a lot of money Labour's way. They've already rowed back on some workers rights reforms. How they handle the trade unions when in power will be interesting. The big unions Unite, GMB and Unison will push a Labour government hard.

Local Government pay negotiations started in April. I wouldn't be surprised if they wait it out to see what a Labour government offer.
