British & Irish Lions 2025 General News and Chat

Really harsh on Nicky Smith, he's significantly better than Sutherland
Graham a good addition,
Ashman.....hmm. Great in the loose, but I hope they don't want a serviceable lineout

Yeah I always worry when Sutherland comes off the bench for Scotland. He peaked years ago and has been a declining force for a while. The only thing in his favour is that he has Lions experience.

Ashman is capable of being brilliant or horrendous. You often don't know what you're going to get and his darts seem to go wonky at crucial times.

Graham is the only one I'm comfortable will do well if given a chance.

Those Scots were probably slated to play against Samoa on Saturday, a game which involves ranking points unlike the England game. So, that reasoning is out the window.
I've just subsequently read on the Lions feed that only Graham will miss Friday's Samoan game, the others won't fly out until Sunday.. Graham flying today.

I still wonder if there's a problem with Lowe. He didn't dive over the line when trying to finish against the Brumbies and was pointing to his ribs when talking to a medic. There were also rumours that Hansen might switch wings and take his spot for the first test.

Errr, what now?
England could lose a tonne of ranking points if they fail to put USA away.
Ranking points aren't just won by the winner - they're also lost by the loser (or favourite if it's a draw).

Freeman plays both wings for England and saints so could see him being moved to 11.

Location probably helps - 5hr direct flight from Samoa vs almost 2days of travel from Argentina (George is taking 3, maybe 4, flights)
It really devalues the Lions shirt that a player's selection or not could depend on whether he happens to be in Samoa or Argentina at the time of the call-up.

While Scotland are in Samoa right now, it's highly likely that England are in the US by now.

Also consider which coachs are prepared to release players

Nicky Smith deserves selection over Rory Sutherland. Smith has been fantastic for Tigers this season. I was at the Tigers v Northampton game at Welford Road and Nicky Smith mullered the Northampton scrum the whole game.
