1st test - Australia v British & Irish Lions

It’ll be interesting to see whether the Telegraph or the Irish Times have the inside track on selection. Both have been pretty good at predicting/leaking their respective national teams in recent years.

The warm up games are to get the Lions players used to playing with each other, and used to the systems in attack and defence that the team will be using.
If a player has a good game against the Waratahs that doesn't override what has happened over the previous 12 months and mean he should go into the test team over a player that has been better than him over the previous 12 months.

A 1st Lions Test team without a man from Cymru is just wrong and makes me feel weird inside.

For me, Morgan has been the best back-rower this tour, but from "leaks" I've been reading, it seems like Farrell is gonna pick Curry at openside (Number 7) and Berne at Blindside (Number 6). Neither Curry and Berne have shown any really form on tour and have had poor games, but Farrell has picked on reputation and all that "test match animals" sh*t I keep hearing.

With me, I don't fk who you are, or what you've done or won, you've gotta show me. Picking on repuation is why the Lions loose most tight close series because they have the same mentality as you in picking on reputation. They play it safe.

Like the Lions in SA in 2021, Dan Biggar of Wales was the safe pick at 10, he had the reputation, because Wales were six nations champions, whereas the form and potential was Finn Russell and that's what everyone was saying and had the played Russell from Test match 1, they probably would have won the series because he plays or more expansive game and ppl saw the difference when he came on

Looking at the "leak" it looks like Farrell had his starting 15 already in his head the moment he stepped on the plane, and he's stuck to that and nothing players outside his starting 15 would make a difference

I’m sure he did. And pretty much every Lions coach before him.

It would be strange if he didn’t, but he’s also got to be flexible enough to respond as the situation and form demands.

Well, let me calm down because it hasn't been confirmed, but if Jac Morgan doesn't start for the Lions, I'm prepared to go to war. Just call me. I'll be there. Right now, I'm on a train to Edinburgh, seething to the very pit of my soul. I'm a Lions nerd. I went in 2017 in NZ and I hate to say it, but 50% of me wants the Lions to lose. No Morgan is just an abomination. If it was VDF I wouldn't be so angry. But Curry ?

I'm cheering for Australia as well. It is more important for World Rugby if they win.

Although if Morgan doesn't start it makes it a lot easier to cheer for the Lions.

I will only 100% commit to a Lions victory if Farrell starts as captain.

Have Gamble and Pietsch not made it into the Wallabies squad? They were the two best players the Lions faced in the warm ups IMO. Gamble especially was superb and he gives Conan a run for his money in the tache stakes.

Edit: Just seen that Pietsch is in.

The Curry disrespect is unreal. I'd be the first to say he wasn't great in the last game. The amount of how can you pick Curry posts, he was world class in the 6N only beaten by Louis Bielle-Biarrey for player of the tournament. Morgan is playing better based on the tour but as player Im picking Curry every day. I'd play both for what its worth, but if your suggesting VDF over Curry then stop watching Rugby.
