Six Nations Rugby going behind a TV paywall

Difference to current deal in that ITV have every England match in return BBC appear to get the away match which features Scotland or Wales the week England is in Edinburgh or Cardiff.
BBC have always had Scotland and Wales home games which add up to the five, so when England play at murrayfield or in Cardiff they're on BBC.

Not in future.

BBC will have all Scotland and Wales home fixtures except when England are in town when ITV have them.

What would have been a better option? Amazon?
The best option would have been the option who pays the most, but is also progressive in it's strategy to grow exposure of the game world wide...

Look at what sky sports did with the Premier league, the partnerships created, the money, the exposure and culture built.

I'm not saying sky is the answer, but rugby clinging on to the fanbase it is forced to share or is losing to other sports isn't the answer.

TV viewership is dying, young people don't watch TV, all the stats show that the TV license will be dead soon, and young people are the ones killing it.

I, like a lot of you want to watch the games on TV, but I also recognise the game isn't growing at the rate that others are, just look at the last decade, F1, UFC, and even E sports have all exploded in popularity. These sports have absolutely benefited from progressive marketing campaigns, increased income, while holding a presence on terrestial keeping the old fuddies engaged.

None of those were interested. Irish Goverment has made it clear it would demand Ireland’s natches were FTA and welsh Language rights also put off everyone. Sport has also been a bit of loss leader for streamers which is why they not rushing to get loads and loads of rights.

ITV looks like it's going to merge with a Sky. If that happens then their matches will probably end up exclusively live on Sky Sports. Same with the Rugby World Cup bar the protected final.

That sounds like it would really depend on whether it's ITV acquiring Sky or the people who run Sky taking over ITV. Edit: Sky's owner Comcast would be buying ITV.

Worth noting that the 6N rights are for ITV, not Sky - even if they both have the same corporate daddy.
Which means they'll be shown on ITV, not Sky - at least for the duration of the current contract. Switching them to Sky would be a breach of said contract.

But RF564 does like to talk about bad things that aren't going to happen

If the BBC goes subscription only I wonder if sport would be part of Netflix style £10 a month or an extra package £30 a month Sky;TNt style with them allowed to really take on those two.

The World Cup is the big one that FTA TV might partially lose. Only the final is protected and now TNT doesn't need to pay for European Footfall from 2027 there is speculation they might go for 2027 World Cup and just sublicense a few matches including the final to a FTA broadcaster. Would of course be controversial if it covered any England, Wales, Scotland or Ireland matches.
